    摘要: An optical access network has a first and a second network-side termination node, the first including a first transceiver arrangement connected to a first optical link, configured to send a first signal to a customer side termination node including a transceiver for receiving the first signal, and the second including a second transceiver arrangement connected to a second optical link and configured for sending a second signal to a transceiver of a customer-side termination node via the second link. The transceiver of the customer side termination node has a loopback element emitting a monitoring signal back to the network side termination nodes. Both network-side termination nodes have a link failure detector receiving the monitoring signal.

    摘要: A forward error correcton coding method comprises a generalized concatenated code comprising a plurality of outer component codes and a plurality of inner component codes. The outer components codes comprise Reed-Solomon codes and a plurality of binary codes of equal length but varying rates. The inner component codes have a nested structure and are defined by the sum of disjoint Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes. The inner and outer component codes are selected such that the product of the minimum Hamming distances of the inner and outer component codes are as equal as possible. Moreover, the component codes are selected by matching cyclotomic cosets of inner BCH codes and type and multiplicity of outer codes.

    摘要: A transmitter for an optical RZ-DPSK communication signal comprises a source for an optical carrier, an electro-optical modulator which comprises at least one element having an optical path length adapted to be varied by an electrical driver signal for intensity modulating the optical carrier based on the driver signal, and a driver circuit for generating the driver signal from an electrical communication signal. The driver signal is an impulse-type signal having two types of impulses spaced in time by a neutral signal state, wherein in the presence of the neutral state of the driver signal at the modulator, the transmission of the modulator becomes zero, and the two types of impulses each cause a transmission different from zero and a phase which is specific for the type of the impulses in the modulator.

    摘要: A device that detects an effect which distorts a communication signal in a serial communication channel comprises an input, a detector connected to the input, a demultiplexer having a data input connected to the output of the detector, and an evaluator at each output of the demultiplexer. The input receives the distorted communication signal from the communication channel. The detector detects a feature in a symbol of the distorted communication signal and outputs the detected feature. The demultiplexer outputs the detected feature and has a plurality of control inputs. A differently delayed symbol (i−1, 1, i+1) of the communication signal is applied to each input to switch the detected feature present at the input of the demultiplexer to an output of the demultiplexer specified by the symbols present at the control inputs.

    摘要: In order to recognize a distorting effect in a serial communication channel, a set of different symbol vectors formed of n>=2 successive communication symbols and a set of reference values of a critical characteristic of the i-th communication symbol (1in) of the symbol vectors is defined, a plurality of sequences of n communication symbols transmitted on the channel is received, and for each of the symbol vectors the value of the characteristic of the i-th communication symbol is detected in all received sequences which correspond to the symbol vector. Then the set of detected values is compared to the set of reference values, and based on the comparison, the effect is judged to be present or not to be present. A recognition device comprises an input for the distorted communication signal, a means (1) connected to the input for detecting a feature in a symbol of the communication signal, a demultiplexer (5) having a data input connected to the detections means (1) and a number n of control inputs which have differently delayed symbols (i−1; i; i+1) of the communication signal applied to them for switching a detected value present at the input of the demultiplexer (5) to an output specified by the symbols present at the control inputs of the demultiplexer, and an evaluating unit (9, 11, 12) at each output of the demultiplexer (5).
