摘要: A fibre-reinforced polymer component is provided which comprises a main portion comprising fibre-reinforced polymer and at least one surface and at least one raised feature extending from said surface. The at least one raised feature consists of non-reinforced polymer and is shaped to incur visually perceptible damage when the component is subject to an impact with an energy above a predetermined impact energy threshold and to resist an impact with an energy below the predetermined impact energy threshold. The at least one raised feature thus provides a clear visual aid as to when a component has experienced an impact with an energy above the impact energy threshold. Because the raised feature consists of polymer without fibre reinforcement, it is more fragile than the fibre-reinforced polymer main portion 204 and thus reduces the energy at which impacts may be detected.

摘要: A composite tube comprising a region of greater diameter forming a bellow. The bellow has a first side and a second side spaced apart in the axial direction of the tube. Each side of the bellow comprises at least one hole and the at least one hole on the first side is offset in relation to the at least one hole on the second side. The holes in the bellow provide increased flexibility, thereby allowing a greater amount of bending or articulation in the shaft. The holes reduce the amount of material in the sides of the bellow, thereby reducing the material stiffness and thereby increasing the flexibility.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a composite structure includes providing a mandrel comprising a base part and at least one conical part. The base part comprises an elongate shaft. The base part of the mandrel comprises a cylindrical surface around a longitudinal axis of the base part. The at least one conical part extends from the cylindrical surface of the base part. The mandrel and a braiding machine are moved relative to one another such that fibre tows are braided over at least the base part of the mandrel. The mandrel and the braiding machine are arranged such that during the braiding process, none of the fibre tows intersect with a vertex of the at least one conical part of the mandrel.

摘要: An isolator includes a first fluid-carrying member and a second fluid-carrying member; and a resistive, semi-conductive or non-conductive component located between the first and the second fluid-carrying member. The component conveys fluid flowing from the first fluid-carrying member to the second fluid-carrying member. The isolator further has a reinforcing composite encircling the first fluid-carrying member, the second fluid-carrying member and the component. The reinforcing composite having first fibers extending at an angle of between −30 degrees and +30 degrees to a longitudinal axis (A-A) of the resistive, semi-conductive or non-conductive component; second fibers interwoven with the first fibers and extending around the first fluid-carrying member, the second fluid-carrying member and the component at an angle of between +60 degrees and +90 degrees and/or between −60 degrees and −90 degrees to the longitudinal axis (A-A); and a resin.
