摘要: Control and stabilizing cables and tendons for high altitude aircraft and airships having lightweight, high strength and low CTE are disclosed, along with a method and machine for fabrication of same. The cable is comprised of a fiber prepreg tow encased in a polymer sleeve with one bobbin at each end to facilitate connections. Consolidating the fiber prepreg tow along the length of the cable using high temperature shrink tubing, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), allows for eliminating the twisting of the fiber prepreg tow, thus reducing the number of wraps around the bobbins. Eliminating the twists in the fiber prepreg tow also reduces the length of fiber needed, and therefore the overall change in length of the control cable with temperature variations is reduced. Additional cable strength can be achieved by adding and holding significant tension on the fiber prepreg tow by applying weight during the curing process.

摘要: A composite tube comprising a region of greater diameter forming a bellow. The bellow has a first side and a second side spaced apart in the axial direction of the tube. Each side of the bellow comprises at least one hole and the at least one hole on the first side is offset in relation to the at least one hole on the second side. The holes in the bellow provide increased flexibility, thereby allowing a greater amount of bending or articulation in the shaft. The holes reduce the amount of material in the sides of the bellow, thereby reducing the material stiffness and thereby increasing the flexibility.

摘要: A flexible, self-supporting hybrid veil that is permeable to liquid and gas. The hybrid veil includes: (a) intermingled, randomly arranged fibres in the form of a nonwoven structure; (b) particles dispersed throughout the nonwoven structure, wherein a majority of the particles are penetrating through the thickness of the nonwoven structure; and (c) a polymeric or resinous binder present throughout the veil. Such hybrid veil can be incorporated into composite laminates, prepregs, fabrics and fibrous preforms.

摘要: A cylindrical winding body is formed by winding continuous fibers impregnated with a first thermosetting resin in a circumferential direction, and the first thermosetting resin in the winding body is thermally cured. A pair of dome members is joined to both end portions of the cylinder member. A fiber bundle impregnated with a second thermosetting resin is helically wound around the joined member over the dome members, and the second thermosetting resin in the wound fiber bundle is thermally cured. A thermosetting resin containing a main agent and a granular solid curing agent is used as the first thermosetting resin, the main agent including a resin precursor and the solid curing agent chemically bonding molecules of the resin precursor together.

Similarly, the second rigid element is formed of a second thermoplastic composition and at least a portion of the second rigid element is bonded, such as by an overmolding process, onto a second portion of the resiliently flexible element. The resiliently flexible articles can be useful as springs, limbs, living hinges, and the like.
