Abstract: A fuel injector for gaseous fuel is provided. The fuel injector includes at least one valve having a valve seat and a plunger that engages the seat to prevent gaseous fuel flow and is displaced from the seat to permit gaseous fuel flow. Displacement of the plunger away from the seat to open the at least one valve is resisted by a first plunger control mechanism and then a second plunger control mechanism depending on the distance the plunger is lifted from the seat.

Abstract: A fuel injector device for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is provided. Included in the fuel injector is a body having a chamber and a pilot valve assembly including a seat retainer configured to be detachably insertable into the chamber of the body. A pilot valve seat is disposed in the seat retainer and substantially enclosed by the seat retainer. A stator assembly is disposed in the seat retainer and at least partially enclosed by the seat retainer. The pilot valve seat and the stator assembly in the pilot valve assembly are replaceable as a single unit of the pilot valve assembly for the fuel injector.

Abstract: A fuel injector is provided comprising an outer housing, a nozzle housing disposed within the outer housing, a flow path between the outer housing and the nozzle housing, the flow path being coupled to a low pressure fuel source, and a circumferential gap in flow communication with the flow path and extending about a tip of the fuel injector between an outer surface of the nozzle housing and an inner surface of a combustion shield adjacent the injector tip. The circumferential gap is in flow communication with a drain gap between the outer housing and a bore for receiving the fuel injector, the drain gap routing the low pressure fuel away from the injector tip.
