A vinyl halide resin stabilizer composition which essentially contains: A. AN ANTIMONY ORGANIC OR ORGANOTIN SULFUR-CONTAINING COMPOUND, FOR EXAMPLE, ANTIMONY ALKYL MERCAPTIDES, ORGANOTIN MERCAPTIDES, ANTIMONY MERCAPTOACID ESTERS, ORGANOTIN MERCAPTOACIDS AND ESTERS, AND THE LIKE, AND B. A TRI-ALKALI METAL PHOSPHATE, SUCH AS TRI-SODIUM PHOSPHATE. These compositions synergistically contribute to the long term heat stability of vinyl halide resin compositions and offer significant heat stabilization economies and improvements. Inhibition or minimization of early color development in vinyl halide resin compositions which are being worked or molded under the action of heat have also been achieved with the resin stabilizer compositions of this invention.

AN ALKALI METAL BISULFITE ADDITION PRODUCT, INCLUDING ALDEHYDE OR KETONE ALKALI METAL BISULFITES, FOR EXAMPLE, ACETONE SODIUM BISULFITE, CYCLOHEXANONE SODIUM BISULFITE, GLYOXAL SODIUM BISULFITE, FORMALDEHYDE SODIUM BISULFITE, ACETALDEHYDE SODIUM BISULFITE AND CYCLOHEXANONE POTASSIUM BISULFITE. These compositions synergistically contribute to the long term heat stability of vinyl halide resins. Among other advantages, the stabilizing efficiencies of such compositions are excellent and clarity in molded vinyl halide resins can be achieved with these stabilizer compositions.

AN ALKALI OR ALKALINE EARTH METAL SALT OF AN ORGANIC ACID, SUCH AS Group I or Group II-a Periodic Table metal salts of carboxylic acids. These compositions synergistically contribute to the long term heat stability of vinyl halide resin compositions and offer significant heat stabilization economies. Efficiencies of the antimony organic compounds are improved in the compositions disclosed thereby permitting the reduction in amounts of such compounds needed for stabilization, and the inhibition of stabilizer exudate from the stabilized resin.
