Abstract: A fuel supply device configured to supply fuel from an inside of a fuel tank to an internal combustion engine includes: a cover body that is installed to an upper wall of the fuel tank; a pump unit that is placed on a bottom wall of the fuel tank and is configured to discharge the fuel from the inside of the fuel tank toward the internal combustion engine; and a coupling stay that couples between the cover body and the pump unit. The coupling stay includes: an upper stay that extends on a lower side of the cover body; and a lower stay that is installed to the pump unit and is slidably fitted to the upper stay in a top-to-bottom direction. A stress concentrating portion, which reduces a section modulus to concentrate a stress around the stress concentrating portion, is formed at a specific location of the lower stay.

Abstract: A pump unit includes an insertion guide member that extends in a longitudinal direction of the pump unit and is used to guide the pump unit at a time of inserting the pump unit into an opening portion of a fuel tank. The insertion guide member includes a stopper portion and a guide portion that are arranged along an edge part of the insertion guide member. When the pump unit is projected in the longitudinal direction onto a plane of projection, the stopper portion protrudes outward from an imaginary circle, which has a fitting portion's diameter, on the plane of projection. The guide portion guides the pump unit in a rotational direction relative to a stay. A cross section of the pump unit taken along a guide portion orthogonal plane is set to be within the imaginary circle, which has the fitting portion's diameter.

Abstract: In a fuel tank, a pressure regulator is placed at an outside of a sub-tank and regulates a pressure of fuel of a pressure-regulation path, which is discharged from a fuel pump and is fed toward an outside of the fuel tank. A fuel recovery passage portion recovers excess fuel, which becomes excess at the pressure-regulation path, to the sub-tank. The sub-tank has an opening at a location that is higher than the suction filter. The fuel recovery passage portion is inserted from the outside of the sub-tank into the inside of the sub-tank through the opening while a gap is formed between the fuel recovery passage portion and the opening, so that the fuel recovery passage portion has an excess fuel outlet that discharges the excess fuel at a location that is on an inner side of the opening where an inside of the sub-tank is placed.

Abstract: A fuel supply device includes a surface level detection device that detects a surface level of fuel through use of a float. A supply main body is placed in a fuel tank through an insertion opening and supplies the fuel to an outside. A surface level detection unit, which includes the float, is rotatable relative to the supply main body, and a rotational range of the surface level detection unit is set to include at least an inserting direction of the supply main body. A distal end part of the surface level detection unit, which is furthermost from an imaginary rotational center axis in the surface level detection unit, is placed on an upper side of an imaginary plane, which includes the imaginary rotational center axis and a center of gravity of the surface level detection unit, in a rotational direction of the surface level detection unit.

Abstract: A coupling stay includes a support inner peripheral surface extending along a rotational axis and providing radial support to a rotatable shaft portion of a pump unit, which extends along the rotational axis. A support lateral surface extends in a longitudinal direction and provides thrust support to the pump unit. The support inner peripheral surface extends from the support lateral surface in the transverse direction. A lock claw projects from the coupling stay. A lock projection projects from the pump unit and is operable to lock rotation of the pump unit relative to the coupling stay about the rotational axis upon fitting of the lock projection between the support lateral surface and the lock claw. A height of a contact part of the lock projection, which contacts the support lateral surface, is limited to be equal to or lower than the rotational axis.
