    Abstract: The present invention is directed towards the use of granules in beverages, wherein the granules comprise (i) a milled carotenoid selected from the group consisting of lutein and zeaxanthin and any mixture thereof having the following particle size distribution: D [3,2] in the range of from 0.6 to 1.5 μm, and D [v, 0.5] in the range of from 1.1 to 3.5 μm, and (ii) a matrix comprising at least one modified food starch, a glucose syrup and sucrose, (iii) a water-soluble antioxidant, wherein the granules have the following particle size distribution: D [3,2] in the range of from 200 to 300 μm, and D [v, 0.5] in the range of from 220 to 320 μm, all D values as measured by laser diffraction according to the Fraunhofer scattering model, whereby the milled carotenoid is encapsulated by the matrix. The present invention is also directed towards the beverages and the granules as such, as well as to a process for the manufacture of the granules. Preferably the carotenoid is lutein, zeaxanthin or any mixture thereof.

    Abstract: Beverages are provided which include a beverage liquid and granules mixed with the beverage liquid The granules include: (i) a milled carotenoid consisting of lutein and/or zeaxanthin, wherein the milled carotenoid has the following particle size distribution: D [3,2] in the range of from 0.6 to 1.5 μm, and D [v, 0.5] in the range of from 1.1 to 3.5 μm, (ii) a matrix material which encapsulates the milled carotenoid and comprises at least one modified food starch, a glucose syrup and sucrose, and (iii) a water-soluble antioxidant, wherein the granules have the following particle size distribution: D [3,2] in the range of from 200 to 300 μm, and D [v, 0.5] in the range of from 220 to 320 μm, and wherein all D values are as measured by laser diffraction according to the Fraunhofer scattering model, and wherein the granules do not include an oil or a gelatin.

    Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for the continuous production of a particulate adsorption product, the apparatus comprising: a mixing drum having an elongated cavity for receiving a particulate adsorbent material, an adsorbent inlet and a product outlet, wherein the mixing drum is arranged such that the cavity is inclined in flow direction of the particulate material, and wherein the cavity comprises an initial transport zone adjacent to the inlet and a mixing zone following the initial transport zone; a rotating member extending through the cavity in a longitudinal direction, wherein the rotating member comprises a helical conveying blade at longitudinal positions corresponding to the initial transport zone and mixing instruments at longitudinal positions corresponding to the mixing zone; and one or more injection nozzles for injecting a liquid adsorbate to the mixing zone. The invention further relates to a process for the continuous production of a particulate adsorption product using such apparatus.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the continuous production of an adsorption product of a nitrooxy-functional organic compound adsorbed on the surface of a particulate adsorbent material, the process comprising the steps of: continuously feeding particulate adsorbent material into an elongated cavity; continuously conveying the material within the cavity in a downstream direction; continuously spraying a liquid adsorbate onto the particulate adsorbent material, wherein the liquid adsorbate comprises the nitrooxy-functional organic compound; continuously agitating the mixture thus obtained to form the adsorption product; and continuously removing the adsorption product from the cavity. The invention further relates to an adsorption product obtained by such process and the use of such adsorption product in ruminant nutrition.
