    摘要: An electrode structure for a liquid crystal display includes a layer of pixel electrodes each having a herringbone-shaped structure, a passivation layer and a layer of common electrodes. The pixel electrodes are formed in parallel above the common electrodes. The herringbone-shaped structure of a pixel electrode has a predefined turning angle between 45 degrees to 90 degrees. The pixel electrode structure allows the liquid crystals in the display to rotate in two directions, clockwise and counterclockwise, to compensate for the color dispersion caused by a wide viewing angle.

In one aspect, the substrate structure includes an alignment layer provided with a plurality of first alignment grooves that are aligned at an angle close to an axis parallel to one edge of the display area. The angle may be 0° or ranges from +20° to −20° relative to the edge of the display area. The LCD panel comprises two opposing substrate structures, with the alignment grooves orthogonal to each other.

    摘要: A method for controlling the cell gap of a liquid crystal display device is disclosed. A photo-sensitive polymer layer is coated over a substrate on which color filter, ITO and black matrix of the liquid crystal display device are formed. Spacers are uniformly sprayed and adhered on the photo-sensitive polymer. With a negative-type photo-polymer, a photo-mask can be used to expose the area of photo-sensitive polymer layer covering the the black matrix. The masked area is exposed, developed and removed by a conventional photo-lithographic process. The spacers attached to the masked area are also removed. The size of the spacers attached on the polymer above the thin-film transistors and the black matrix controls the cell gap.

    摘要: A transflective liquid crystal display includes a plurality of pixel regions, each pixel region including three subpixel regions with different colors. At least one subpixel region includes a first substrate including a transmissive region and a reflective region; a second substrate disposed on the first substrate; liquid crystal interposed between the first and second substrates; and a color filter formed below the second substrate and including first and second color resists. The whole or most of the first color resist is in the reflective region and the whole or most of the second color resist is in the transmissive region, such that when shifting occurs due to assembly error, the area of the second color resist in the transmissive region remains unchanged. By means of the transflective LCD of the present invention, the chromaticity in the reflective and transmissive regions will reach the target value.
