    摘要: An optical assembly incorporating a wedge-shaped optically transparent prism, a 45 degree right isosceles triangular prism which has two thin film coated surfaces, a rhomboidal prism attached to the triangular prism, a second, smaller 45 degree right isosceles triangular prism attached to one end face of the rhomboidal prism and two planoconvex lenses attached to the combination of the rhomboidal and second triangular prisms is mounted within a housing. All of the optical components are cemented to the adjacent component utilizing a transparent optical cement to form an integral unit. Data and servo detector assemblies and a diode laser light source are mounted on the external surfaces of the housing to form a stationary optical assembly which provides the following functions: generates a collimated beam of light whose power output may be modulated electronically to perform read, write and erase functions; generates an electrical data signal derived from a portion of a returning light beam; and generates suitable electrical error signals for servomechanical control of radial and axial motion of a focused light spot on information storage media.

    摘要: A miniature rotary actuator optical head assembly incorporating data and servo detecting elements mounted inside a source/detector module, which is located on the rotary actuator arm adjacent to the pivot point of the rotary actuator arm. The miniature rotary actuator optical head also includes a miniature focus motor which supports a fold mirror and an objective lens and repositions the fold mirror and objective lens simultaneously whenever a focus error is received. The focus motor can be actuated by a magnetic bias field that originates external to the rotary actuator arm, particularly the magnetic bias field generated for magneto-optical recordation. The optical assembly may also include two stage tracking by mounting the light source on a pair of lateral movement flexures and supplying a fine tracking error signal to actuate the movement of the light source.

    摘要: When doing multitrack seek or a single track jump, the midpoint between the maximum and the minimum of a tracking error signal is determined. A peak detector detects the positive peak and the negative peak. These maximum and minimum values are stored in a sample and hold circuit. A summing circuit determines the midpoint between the maximum and the minimum of the tracking error signal. An operational amplifier provides a true error signal to the servo control system that provides the appropriate servo operating point. The invention is based on the fact that even though there is no absolute reference signal indicating the appropriate on-track position, the tracking servo system obtains the track error over the whole range of positions relative to track center when doing a multitrack seek or a single track jump. The appropriate servo operating point is the midpoint between the maximum and the minimum of the track error signal. This provides compensation for level shifts due to factors such as beam displacement, or detector mispositioning, changes in read/write beam profile, and disk tilt. The present invention solves the key disadvantage of the continuous groove tracking method by eliminating tracking offsets without adding additional information to the disk. It also avoids imposing overhead on the data channel. It compensates for effects of disk tilt, detector misalignment, detector and amplifier offsets, and beam decentration due to fine tracking.

    摘要: A two-stage beam positioning apparatus for use in an optical data storage device is provided. A fixed assembly includes a light beam source and detector, light beam focusing and track following apparatus. The fixed assembly is optically coupled to a movable assembly which provides coarse positioning of a focused light spot on a data storage medium such as an optical recording disc. The coarse positioning assembly is mechanically independent from the light beam source and detector assembly and, therefore, may be made very stiff and light resulting in a high bandwidth and reduced data access time. Since the light beam source and detector assembly and the focusing and track following control apparatus are mechanically isolated from the movable coarse positioning assembly, the size and mass of these components are not critical and do not affect data access time.

    摘要: An apparatus for scrambling a television signal in which horizontal lines of the transmitted television picture are selectively inverted in accordance with the state of a pseudorandom noise generator. In order to permit correction of the throughput gain as well as the throughput offset at the receiving end of the communication link so as to obtain a desired level of picture quality, particularly in a satellite communication system, an analog calibration signal representing both black and white levels is inserted into a horizontal line of the vertical retrace interval at the transmission end of the link. This calibration signal is then detected at the receiving end of the link and the signal levels are adjusted as needed. In addition, a randomly-varying key code signal for resetting the pseudorandom noise generator is randomly inserted into another horizontal line of the vertical retrace period to control scrambling. The audio portion of the television signal is also scrambled by randomly shifting the audio carrier between first and second offset frequencies.

    摘要: A color filter system for an optical system, applicable to optical systems in color image scanners, copiers, video cameras and digital cameras. The optical system includes a photosensor army, transmissive color filters on the photosensor array and a corrective reflective filter adjacent to the photosensor array. The transmissive color filters on the photosensor array are imperfect, transmitting too much visible red as well as infrared. The adjacent reflective filter compensates by suppressing longer visible red wavelengths and infrared wavelengths. The combination provides color precision with cost and manufacturing advantages relative to attempting to provide precise transmissive filters on the photosensor array or relative to providing compensation filters elsewhere in the system.
