Abstract: An apparatus for positioning a strap around an object includes a handle for being grasped by a user of the apparatus. The apparatus further includes an arm portion having a first end coupled to the handle portion and an opposite second end having a coupling mechanism coupled at or nearby for selectively coupling a portion of the strap to the second end of the arm portion. When the handle portion is grasped by the user of the apparatus adjacent a side of the object the arm portion is sized and configured to be movable among: a first positioning wherein the arm portion extends outward from the handle and the user such that the second end of the arm portion extends a distance beyond a far side of the object, and a second positioning wherein the arm portion wraps at least partially around the object.

Abstract: A reaching and grabbing assist device is provided having a reaching extension for aid in reaching out of distance objects. The distal terminus of the extension has an articulating grapnel that may be angularly positioned about the lateral centerline of the shaft. A support strip on the user's wrist allows total control without the risk of the device falling out of one's grasp or reach. Made of a hard outer casing, the shaft may allow internal rigging to connect the articulating grapnel to controls at the handle. Abstract: Techniques for providing feedback during manual joint positioning include a computer-assisted device comprising an articulated structure comprising a joint and a brake associated with the joint and a control unit coupled to the articulated structure. To provide feedback during manual positioning of the joint due to manual force applied by an operator, the control unit is configured to determine a target position for the joint, determine kinematics of the joint relative to the target position, lock the joint when the joint is at the target position, release the brake when the kinematics of the joint indicate that the joint is moving towards the target position, and apply the brake when the kinematics of the joint indicate that the joint is moving away from the target position.
