    摘要: A method for forming a surgical clip and fixture for use therein includes molding a polymeric clip body, the clip body having hinged legs, the polymer of the clip body being substantially amorphous. The clip body can then be moved to a desired configuration while being subjected to a temperature above the glass transition temperature. The molded clip body is then heated to a temperature within the crystallization range for a period of time sufficient to impart at least 20% crystallinity thereto to impart a spring back property. Also disclosed herein is a fixture for forming a surgical clip in accordance with this method.

    摘要: Apparatus for venting a pressurized gas container is disclosed. The container bottom moves outward as a result of over-pressure caused by excessive temperature. The bottom pushes against a member of the housing, thereby forcing the nozzle head to hit and become fixed against a second member of the housing. Continued movement of the container body toward the nozzle head effectively depresses the nozzle head, thus releasing gas from the container. In a preferred embodiment, a safety plug in a passageway in the nozzle head is melted to provide a channel for the vented gas.

    摘要: A pneumatic tire having a "run-flat" capability, is disclosed. The tire is in the form of a substantially toroidally shaped carcass having a pair of bead-reinforced sidewall regions and a crown region annularly bridging the sidewall regions. Internally of the carcass, there is provided an expandable nail-deflector for deflecting a nail that punctures, for example, the crown region. The nail deflector has a releasably constrained normal condition when the crown region is puncture-free that is annularly spaced from the interior of the crown region, and is circumferentially self-expandable into engagement with the interior of the crown region upon puncture of the latter by a nail to deflect such nail harmlessly away from its path of entry.

    摘要: A breaker reinforcing tape for belted pneumatic tires, a method of making such tape, and a method of constructing such tires therewith, are disclosed. The tape includes a generally sinusoidally crimped strip of uncured rubber and a plurality of similarly crimped parallel cords having their undulations following and nesting in the undulations of the crimped strip, the cords at successive apexes being secured to successive apexes of the strip. A second uncured rubber strip in a flat condition is secured to alternate ones of the apexes of the undulations of the array of cords and the crimped strip at one face of the latter. At least one frangible element is interposed in a fixed and substantially flat condition between the crimped and flat strips for releasably reinforcing and stabilizing the flat strip against inadvertent expansion that would prematurely reduce the amplitude and frequency of the undulations of the crimped strip and its associated cords. The tape, when used in making a tire, is wound helically about the crown region of the carcass, outwardly of the breaker plies, at an angle of substantially zero degrees to the mid circumferential plane of the carcass. The ring is radially expansible in a continuous, circumferential channel of the drum.     摘要: The single-stage building of 0.degree. belted pneumatic tires completely in flat band form on standard building drums, is disclosed. The feasibility of the process rests on the provision of the substantially inextensible metallic or non-metallic belt cords in the form of longitudinally extensible high "soft stretch" tapes. In a preferred version of the invention, the tape is composed of a plurality of cords each having formed therein a multiplicity of undulations which in any given straight length of the tape are substantially planar, the cords being disposed in side by side relation so that the planes of the undulations of each cord are generally parallel to the planes of the undulations of each adjacent cord, and the cords together with a relatively weak and frangible but only minimally undulated stabilizing yarn for the tape being secured to each other and held in their undulating state by a relative weak, chain stitch knitted, frangible stitching yarn or thread. The belt-forming structure is built by helically winding such tape circumferentially of the building drum in the medial region of the still cylindrical or flat band carcass at an angle of substantially 90.degree. to a plane including the common axis of the carcass and the building drum, with the undulations of the cords "on end", i.e. in planes generally normal to the surface of the building drum. Upon the raw tire then being radially expanded into its toroidal form, the stabilizing and stitching yarns break and the cords are straightened out, resulting in the formation of a mono-ply, plural-lead, helical cord 0.degree. belt in the shaped tire. The "soft stretch" of the tape used, i.e. the ratio of the length of the component cords when fully straightened without stretching, to the length of the unextended tape, may be as low as about 20% or as high as about 400%, depending on the extent to which, for any given tire, the belt-forming structure will have to expand radially from its starting diameter on the building drum to the final belt diameter in the toroidally shaped tire. Each cord may additionally be locally weakened at a multiplicity of longitudinally spaced points to facilitate a possible stretching or elongation of the cords after the same have been fully straightened out during the radial expansion of the belt. In any such tape, the component cords must be phased relative to each other to dispose the respective weakened portions of each cord out of lateral alignment with the weakened portions of at least each next adjacent cord, and the weakening interval should preferably be so selected that in the final belt the weakened portions are out of lateral alignment with each other in directions parallel to the tire axis. The full nature and extent of the invention is discernible, however, only by reference to the entire disclosure.
