摘要:
An apparatus for enhancing toner release from an image bearing member in an electrostatographic printing machine, including a resonator suitable for generating vibratory energy arranged in line contact with the back side of the image bearing member for uniformly applying vibratory energy to the image bearing member. The resonator includes a piezoelectric transducer and a horn-type waveguide assembly, wherein an adhesive epoxy augmented with a substantial concentration of electrically conductive, free flowing particulate bead elements is used to bond the horn and piezoelectric transducer element together, without the requirement of a backing plate or bolts. The conductive beads resolve bond layer thickness anomalies while eliminating adhesive flow restrictions such that substantially uniform tip velocity and frequency output can be achieved.

A resonating assembly, generally for use in electrostatographic applications for enhancing transfer of toner from an image bearing member, with the resonating assembly positioned along a longitudinal axis generally transverse to the process direction of movement of the image bearing member, for applying uniform vibratory energy thereto. The resonating assembly includes a plurality of discrete individual resonator elements, each including a vibratory energy producing segment, such as a piezoelectric transducer, for generating vibratory energy and a waveguide segment coupled to the vibratory energy producing segment for directing the vibratory energy to the image bearing member. An alignment rod is provided for extending the length of the entire resonating assembly, along a longitudinal axis thereof, wherein the alignment rod facilitates critical alignment specifications for the resonating assembly. The alignment rod is cooperatively engaged with each discrete resonator element in a manner that permits each resonator element to function independent of each other.

A latching assembly for mounting a printhead to a plate assembly of a printing machine includes a first elongated actuator and a second elongated actuator defining a bore to slidably receive the first actuator. A first spring is disposed between the heads of the first and second actuators, while a second spring is disposed between the second actuator and the printhead to exert a clamping force. A cam mechanism is defined between the plate assembly and the ends of the actuators that is configured to draw the head of the first actuator toward the plate assembly upon rotation of the first actuator and to independently draw the head of the second actuator toward the plate assembly upon rotation of said second actuator. Movement of said first actuator exerts an initial clamping force while movement of the second actuator produces a final clamping force on the printhead.

Apparatuses useful in printing onto media and methods for stripping print media from belts are disclosed. An exemplary apparatus useful in printing onto media includes a first member including a first surface; a second member; a fixing belt supported on the second member, the fixing belt including an inner surface and an outer surface, the first surface and the second surface forming a nip at which media are received; and a vibrating stripping device disposed between the second member and the inner surface of the fixing belt. The vibrating stripping device includes a stripping member including a stripping surface and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism produces vibration of the stripping surface and the fixing belt, and the vibration of the fixing belt assists separation of media passed through the nip from the outer surface of the fixing belt adjacent to the stripping surface of the stripping member.

An improved flag-actuator (actuator) is provided for use in an electrophotographic marking system. This actuator is reversible providing sides 1 and 2, thereby about doubling the useful life of the actuator. Each side 1 and 2 is mounted at different positions on a shaft and permits a much wider range of actuator adjustment than prior art units. Depending upon a tolerance stack-up within the marking system, the user can determine whether to use either side 1 or side 2. The use of this reversible asymmetrical and eccentric actuator allows for the setting of start actuation for nearly double the tolerance stack-up.

An apparatus for enhancing transfer of a developed toner image from an image bearing member to a support substrate including a resonator suitable for generating vibratory energy arranged in line contact with the back side of the image bearing member for uniformly applying vibratory energy to the image bearing member. The toner release enhancing system includes a resonator for applying vibratory energy to the image bearing member to facilitate toner release therefrom, a vacuum source, including a vacuum plenum substantially enclosing the resonator and defining an opening adjacent the image bearing member, wherein the vacuum source provides sufficient force at the vacuum plenum opening to draw the image bearing member toward the resonator, and a replaceable coupling cover for mounting on the vacuum plenum, in alignment with the opening defined thereby, to couple the resonator to the image bearing member. The replaceable resonator coupling cover of the present invention provides a simple, and inexpensive replaceable protective coupling attachment for extending the functional life of the resonator, and in particular, the horn thereof and also tends to optimize the region in which vibratory energy is delivered to the image bearing member by dampening the vibration of the belt outside of the transfer region, resulting in a focused area of vibration.

Systems and methods are described that facilitate automatically and uniformly depositing a marking material on transfer assist blade (TAB) petals to improve TAB pressure profile accuracy. A TAB liftoff timing value is adjusted in non-volatile memory (NVM) to delay TAB liftoff beyond a trailing edge of a page on which an oversized (in the process direction) image being printed. Toner deposited on a photoreceptor belt beyond the trailing edge of the page is picked up by the TAB petals once the trailing edge of the page has passed the TAB. The TAB is then disengaged and re-engaged against a backside of a next page, where the TAB petals deposit the uniformly acquired toner to generate the TAB pressure profile.

As set forth herein, a reusable transfer assist blade (TAB) assembly includes a replaceable blade assembly that is locked into position between a clamp assembly and an extruded portion of the TAB assembly. When the blade assembly requires replacement, spring tables on the clam assembly are biased upward to release the clamp assembly from the extruded portion, and the clamp assembly is rotated about a clamp tab-clamp pocket interface at the top of the TAB assembly. The blade assembly is removed and replaced, the clamp assembly is rotated back into position against the extruded portion, and the spring tabs re-engage interlocking features on the extruded portion to lock the replacement blade in position. The expensive extruded portion and clamp assembly are thus reused and the inexpensive blade assembly is discarded or recycled.

This invention relates to an electrophotographic marking apparatus and provides an automatic method for automatically scanning and correcting TAB pressure non-uniformity using a cross-process uniformity controller and a closed loop system. The TAB is contacted with an image on a photoreceptor surface to leave its imprint or footprint on the image. Sensing said footprint and marking indicated changes in the TAB performance and pressure. This method uses a CPUC full width array in conjunction with a software version for assessing TAB performance. This method continuously monitors the TAB performance during the running of a marking apparatus.

Acoustic Transfer Assist (ATA) systems are used in media printing devices to help transfer toner to paper by use of ultrasonic vibrations. The transducer is driven at its resonant frequency, though somewhat dampened. To shorten the decay time of the transducer when its vibration is not desired, a compensating signal is used. A reverse drive voltage is used during transducer shut-off. The reverse drive causes the transducer to vibrate at its normal resonant frequency, but at a 180° phase shift, causing the transducer to stop vibrating significantly faster than without a reverse drive. An open phase-locked loop system drives the transducer from resonance to rest. When the transducer stops vibrating, current to the reverse drive loop is cut off.
