摘要: A tactile aid for deaf individuals includes a conveniently wearable array of vibration transducers mounted on a flexible carrier strip so as to be positionally biased toward the individuals's skin. Each transducer includes an enclosed magnetically vibratable cantilevered beam, an angled mounting slot to effect the positional bias mounting on the strip, and contact pads rather than conventional pin connectors to both reduce mass and facilitate electrical connection to contact pads on carrier strips in the form of printed circuit boards. Received acoustic signals are processed in at least first and second formant circuits each sub-divided into plural sub-bands corresponding to the number of transducers. In each formant circuit the corresponding formant frequency and amplitude are measured, averaged over a predetermined number of cycles, and a voltage corresponding to the measured amplitude is provided on a corresponding sub-hand channel to pulse width modulate a pulse train employed to excite the transducers. Spectral resolution can be increased by averaging the amplitude/frequency measurements over fewer cycles. Glottal pulses in the speech signal are monitored to provide a glottal rate signal at a stepped down frequency related to the actual glottal rate. The channel amplitude is modulated by the glottal signal to cause alternation of transducer excitation at the related glottal rate. Additional formants may be detected to derive additional information in the excitation signal.

摘要: An integrated circuit and method for testing memory on that integrated circuit are provided. The integrated circuit comprises processing logic operable to perform data processing operations on data, and a number of memory units operable to store data for access by the processing logic. A memory test controller is also provided which is operable to execute test events in order to seek to detect any memory defects in the number of memory units. The memory test controller comprises a storage operable to store event defining information for each of a plurality of test events forming a sequence of test events to be executed, and an interface which, during a single programming operation, receives the event defining information for each of the plurality of test events and causes that event defining information to be stored in the storage. Event processing logic within the memory test controller is then operable, following the single programming operation, to execute the sequence of test events. This provides an efficient technique for enabling a sequence of test events to be programmed at run time.

摘要: A reformer exercise apparatus has a generally rectangular frame having a head end and a foot end and including a pair of spaced apart parallel track members, a movable carriage mounted on the frame for movement along the track members between said head and foot ends against one or more springs connected between the carriage and the foot end of the frame and an adjustable foot bar assembly mounted at the foot end of the frame. The foot bar assembly includes a foot bar and a foot bar support bar that fits into a pair of support brackets. Each bracket is a generally block shaped body fastened to the foot end of the frame. The bracket has a plurality of vertically spaced, downwardly opening slanted slots therein for receiving the support bar, each slanted slot having an entrance portion extending upward to an enlarged support portion at a base of the slot for retaining the support bar therein. The enlarged support portion forms a pocket to positively retain the support bar. A lock block that removably fastens to the foot bar support bar may be slidably inserted into the support portion of the bracket to lock the support bar in the support portion of the bracket.

摘要: An arrangement (120) of members for a throat bushing for rotary fluid equipment includes a first member (122) that is useful for seal cavities that contain conventional packing, and a second bushing member (132) that will be used in conjunction with the first bushing member if the seal cavity utilize a mechanical seal at the remote end of the cavity. Both bushing members (122, 132) are provided with spiral grooves (140) in a central bore thereof for the removal of contaminants from the seal cavity. The distal end face (124) of the first bushing member is contoured to receive a mating proximal end face (144) of the second bushing member or to also receive the abutting face of a packing ring or a lantern ring. The arrangement of the invention allows an operator to switch between the use of a mechanical seal or conventional packing without having to discard his primary seal cavity protector.

摘要: A method for synchronising data between a receiving computer and a sending computer by way of a computer network or the like, wherein the sending computer has a source file and the receiving computer has a reference file. The source file is arranged at the sending computer into a sequence of data blocks, each block comprising a predetermined number of data units (e.g. bytes), and a source key value is computed for each block in the source file, and the source key values are transmitted to the receiving computer. At the receiving computer, the source key values are compared with reference key values computed for each predetermined number of contiguous data units in the reference file to determine matches between source key values and reference key values. Then, based on indications of which source keys do not have matching reference keys, specific data blocks are transmitted from the source file corresponding to the unmatched source keys. Then, the receiving computer constructs a target file from the contiguous data units in the reference file determined to have. reference key values matching respective source key values and the data blocks from the source file received from the sending computer. In the context of the Internet, the provision of the source key values and data blocks to the receiving computer can conveniently be carried out in appropriate circumstances by a proxy server or the like, using standard caching techniques.
