    摘要: A wireless communication network determines positioning data for a given mobile terminal, in response to receiving a positioning event trigger for that mobile terminal. The network sends the positioning data to the mobile terminal via control-plane signaling, for transfer by the mobile terminal to the user plane. Correspondingly, the mobile terminal receives the positioning data over the control plane, transfers it to the user plane, and transmits the positioning data or location information derived from the positioning data, via user-plane signaling. As such, network-performed positioning measurements and/or geographic coordinate data derived therefrom are transferred from the control plane, to the user plane, for flexible and transparent transmission from the mobile terminal to a given node having a user-plane connection with the mobile terminal. Such a node may be essentially any type of communication device, system, or server, internal or external to the network.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for determining a position estimate for a base station transceiver node in a wireless communication system are disclosed. Angle-of-arrival and/or timing advance measurements corresponding to transmissions received from mobile stations for which geographic locations are already known are combined with known locations for the mobile stations to estimate the position of the base station receiving the transmissions. This estimated base station position may be used, for example, in subsequent positioning of mobile stations for which locations are not already known, such as mobile stations not equipped with GPS technology. The estimated base station position may also be used to update a database of base station coordinates for the wireless network.

    摘要: Method and arrangement in a first node for providing geographical position related information. The first node and a second node are comprised within a wireless communication system. The first node and the second node are adapted to exchange wireless signals. The method comprises receiving a signal from the second node. Apart of the received signal that has propagated through a first channel path from the second node is detected by using a circular correlator. A timing estimate associated with the propagation time of the part of the signal which is received over the first channel path from the second node is calculated. Thus the calculated timing estimate is provided, which timing estimate is to be used when determining the geographical position.

A collective positioning measurement order (50) is issued to a multitude of mobile terminals (40) in a first cell (10) of the cellular communication system (1). Each mobile terminal (40) receives information concerning a collective positioning measurement order. The mobile terminal (40) performs a positioning operation, typically a positioning measurement on a ranging signal (51, 52) or transmission of a ranging signal (53), preferably intermittently at a multitude of times, according to a predetermined rule based on the information concerning the collective positioning measurement order. An updating of a storage with positioning data can preferably be obtained. In terrestrially based positioning systems, signal resources dedicated to positioning measurement can be reserved in the cellular communication system.
