    Abstract: Projector display systems comprising a light dimmer and first modulator are disclosed. The light dimmer may comprise an adjustable iris, adjustable light sources and/or LCD stack that is capable of lowering the luminance of the light source illuminated the first modulator. The first modulator may comprise a plurality of analog mirrors (e.g. MEMS array) and the second modulator may comprise a plurality of mirrors (e.g., DMD array). The display system may further comprise a controller that sends control signals to the light dimmer and first modulator. The display system may render a desired dynamic range for rendering a projected image by a combination of such control signals.

    Abstract: In some embodiments, an encoding method for generating an extended dynamic range (EDR) channel in response to an input video channel, such that the EDR channel's code values consist of code values in a range from a standard black level, X, through a standard white level, Z, and an additional code value set. The EDR channel is displayable with standard dynamic range and standard precision by a standard dynamic range video system which maps to the level, X, any of the EDR channel's values less than X, and maps to the level, Z, any of the EDR channel's values greater than Z, and is displayable with an extended dynamic range greater than the standard dynamic range and/or a precision greater than the standard precision by an EDR video system. Other aspects are systems configured to perform embodiments of the encoding method, and methods and systems for displaying EDR video.

    Abstract: A display apparatus, a display management module and a method for ambient light compensation are described. The display management module is configured to receive an input video signal comprising a sequence of video frames and to determine whether a current video frame of the sequence of video frames immediately follows a scene change. The display management module is further configured to adjust ambient light compensation applied to the input signal in dependence on the signal indicative of intensity of ambient light only in response to determining that the current video frame of the sequence of video frames immediately follows a scene change.
