    摘要: A rectangular prism (FIG. 10A) is cut diagonally to form a pair of generally wedge-shaped billets (FIG. 10B). The generally wedge-shaped billets are heated and placed in a transversely elongated die cavity of a lower busting die (20). An upper busting die (22) presses the billet generally into conformity with the busting die cavity. The busting dies include a projection (36) which forms a recess in one planar surface of the billet (FIG. 10C). The busted billet is disposed axially in an axially elongated split ring die cavity (46) of a split ring die (40). A blocking punch (60) presses the billet generally into conformity with the split ring die cavity (FIG. 10D). The split ring die and the blocked billet are moved from a blocking well (14) to a finishing well (16) where a finishing punch (70) presses the blocked billet into conformity with the finishing die cavity (FIG. 10E). The flanges are trimmed from the finished billet and mounting apertures (80, 82) are punched to form an excavator tip (FIG. 10F).

    摘要: Disclosed is a forging press including an automatic rolling key die lock comprising a forging ram and a forging frame including a die socket with an inner sidewall slot. A die, preferably comprising a split ring die, is received in the die socket and includes a mating slot for mating alignment with the press sidewall slot. A rolling key is received in the sidewall slot and the mating slot comprising an elongated bar including an intermediate undercut portion and a connecting member eccentrically secured to one terminal end of the bar. A lever is operatively engaged at one end to the connecting member for rotation of the rolling key upon selective operation of the lever, and operatively engaged at a second end to the ram for operation of the lever upon selective advancement and retraction of the ram.

    摘要: A preheated billet (A) is disposed in a billet receiving region (20) of a lower die (B). The lower preforming die defines a throat region (30) which is smaller in transverse cross section than the billet receiving region and disposed immediately therebelow. The lower die further defines an enlarged relief region (40) which is larger in all transverse dimensions than the throat region and disposed immediately therebelow. An upper die (C) includes a billet engaging surface (50) which has substantially the same transverse cross section as the billet receiving region. The upper die is forced downward by a hydraulic press or the like into engagement with the billet. As the upper preforming die continues downward, the billet engaging surface is telescopically received within the billet receiving region pushing and deforming the billet ahead of it. With continued downward movement, the billet is forced into conformity with the billet receiving region and is extruded through the throat region to hang within the relief region. In this manner, a billet is formed in part in substantially conformity with the billet receiving region and in part untapered or draft-free with the cross section of the throat region.

    摘要: A forging (A) is received in a split ring (B) which provides peripheral support to a forging peripheral wall (14) and an upper peripheral flange (16). The forging and the split ring are supported by a nest member assembly (C) as a trimming assembly (D) moves longitudinally to trim the forging flange and a forging bore (10). A punch (74) with a hardened cutting edge (80) moves axially through the forging bore and interacts with a nesting assembly cutting edge (60) to trim the bore. Concurrently, a trim die (90) having a cutting edge (96) interacts with a split die cutting edge (36) trimming the upper flange. The split ring restrains a central portion of the forging from puffing peripherally outward in response to the punch being urged therethrough. The interaction of the trim die and the split ring inhibits the upper part of the forging adjacent the upper flange from being drawn in toward the forging bore by the interaction between the punch and forging. In this manner, the forging bore and flange are trimmed concurrently and deformation of the forging is restrained.
