摘要: A reasonably-sized testing database instance can be efficiently replicated and maintained for a very large production database while retaining the characteristics and cross-sectional data. The performance characteristics are maintained in order to provide for proper testing of the production database for various application programs. Statistics on the type of data distribution for the customer data are obtained, allowing for parameters to be determined which can be used to store data only near the endpoints of the distribution (and/or at other key locations). In this way, a substantial amount of data skew is retained in a much smaller instance of the production database, allowing for easier performance testing, upgrade testing, etc.

摘要: Apparatus to provide a remote outlet from a master electrical outlet is provided with electrical conducting recesses connected to an electrical power source. The apparatus has a plug member and conductor prongs on the plug member to engage the recesses in the master outlet. A conductor attachment is formed on the plug member, in electrical contact with the conductor prongs. There is a limb adapted to be attached to the plug member. Conductors are present in the limb, each conductor in the electrical contact with one conductor prong of the plug member. A conductor attachment in the limb releasably engages the conductor attachment at the master outlet and is in electrical contact with the conductors in the limb. There is a remote outlet with conductor recesses. There is a further conductor attachment at the distal end of the limb, in electrical contact with the conductors in the limb. Each recess is in electrical contact with a conductor in the limb. Conductor attachments are provided in the remote outlet corresponding to the further conductor attachments at the distal end of the limb and in electrical contact with the recesses in the remote outlet. The limb may be disconnected from the plug member and the remote outlet. The secondary outlet is provided remote from but duplicating the master outlet and is in electrical contact with the master outlet.

摘要: A sawmill serving to cut logs into lengths which will allow for maximum use of the wood has a support for the log to be sawn. A number of saws are arranged alongside the supported log for individual lateral movement longitudinally of the log. Associated with the support is a locating device for determining the position of the log end relative to a reference datum line extending across the support. An electronic scanner surveys the log as it is delivered to the support and obtains log profile data which is fed to a computer. The computer has a memory in which is stored desirable cutting data as related to the reference datum line and the log profile data. A signal is sent by the computer to each of the saws whereupon the saws take up positions which will result in the log being cut into optimum random lengths.
