Abstract:
The present invention provides a self-collapsing, moisture curable one component polyurethane foam (1K PU) composition from moisture curable polyurethane prepolymers and to methods of making weather resistant barriers and formed in place gaskets therefrom. The foam compositions are packed under pressure with a blowing agent. In the methods, the foams are applied to gaps in the exterior (sheathing) of a building under construction and collapse on cure to enable application an aqueous weather barrier coating thereover within an hour. The foams also cure when applied on or adjacent a structure to form a foam gasket that enables installation of additional structural elements over or adjacent the foam gasket without bowing or damage to the structure treated.
Abstract:
A one-component foam formulation contains a pre-polymer and a blowing agent, the pre-polymer being the reaction product of a polymeric polyol component having an average hydroxyl functionality in a range of 2.3 to 2.85 hydroxyl functionalities per molecule as determined using ASTM D4274-11 (method D); and where the polymeric polyol component has an effective average molecular weight in a range of 4500 and 10000 grams per mole, one or more than one type of chain extender molecule having 3 to 6 carbon atoms and 2 to 4 reactive functionalities selected from a group consisting of hydroxyl and amine functionalities per molecule, a polyisocyanate having a functionality in a range of 2.1 to 3.0 —NCO functionalities per molecule as determined by ASTM D7252-06(2011)e1; and a catalyst.

Abstract:
Polymer foam is made from a two-component foam system. The foam system includes an A-side component which contains a multifunctional Michael acceptor and a blowing agent that has a boiling temperature in the range −40° C. to +100° C. The system also includes a B-side component that contains a multifunctional carbon-Michael donor, a surfactant and a blowing agent that has a boiling temperature in the range −40° C. to +100° C. The viscosities of each of the components are 2,500 cPs or lower. Foam is made by separately pressurizing the components, then separately depressurizing them so they each at least partially expand. The partially expanded materials are then combined in the presence of a carbon-Michael reaction catalyst to form a reaction mixture which is cured to form the polymer foam.
