摘要: The present invention provides four-particle electrophoretic displays with improved driving methods to achieve better color separation between adjacent pixel electrodes. The driving methods improve the color state performance when a first pixel is displaying a mixed state of a first highly-charged particle and a second lower-charged particle of the opposite polarity, while a neighboring pixel is displaying a state of a second highly-charged particle having the opposite polarity to the first highly-charged particle. The particles can be, for example, all reflective or one type of particle can be partially light transmissive.

The first pair including a first type of positive particles and a first type of negative particles and the second pair consists of a second type of positive particles and a second type of negative particles, wherein the first pair of particles and the second pair of particles have different charge magnitudes (identifiable as zeta potentials). In particular, the driving methods produce cleaner optical stakes of the lesser-charged particles with less contamination from the other particles and more consistent electro-optical performance when the intermediate driving voltages are modified.

摘要: An electrophoretic medium comprises a fluid and first (B), second (Y), third (R) and fourth (W) particles dispersed in the fluid and having differing colors. The first (B) and third (R) particles bear charges of one polarity and the second (Y) and fourth (W) particles bear charges of the opposite polarity, The first particles (B) have a greater zeta potential than the third particles (R), and the second particles (Y) have a greater zeta potential than the fourth particles (W). One of the particles (W) is white, one of the non-white particles (B) is partially light-transmissive, and the remaining two non-white particles are light-reflective. To display the color of a mixture of the first (B) and second (Y) particles at a viewing surface, the medium is driven to display the second particles (Y) at the viewing surface, then a first driving voltage is applied for a first period to drive the second (Y) and fourth (W) particles towards the viewing surface, then a second driving voltage, of opposite polarity to and lower magnitude than, the first voltage, is applied for a second period less than the first period, and finally the applications of the two driving voltages are repeated.

摘要: An electro-optic display includes a display stack having a layer of electro-optic material between a common electrode and an array of pixel electrodes, each associated with a display pixel. A display controller circuit is in electrical communication with the display stack, and is capable of applying waveforms to each display pixel by applying one or more time-dependent voltages between the common electrode and each pixel electrode. A temperature sensor in communication with the display controller circuit is positioned proximate to the display stack. A first plurality of look-up tables includes waveform shape data representing a plurality of shapes of waveforms the display controller circuit is capable of applying to each display pixel, and a second plurality of look-up tables includes voltage amplitude data representing a plurality of voltage amplitudes the display controller circuit is capable of applying to each display pixel to transition its optical state.

摘要: A method for driving electro-optic displays including a layer of electro-optic material disposed between a common electrode and a backplane including an array of pixel electrodes, each coupled to a pixel transistor. The method for driving includes apportioning a displayable region of the electro-optic display into N BRAID line groups, where each of the N BRAID line groups is associated with a frame buffer. The method also includes receiving first image data comprising optical state data for the entire displayable region of the electro-optic display, and sequentially writing subsets of the first image data to each of the N frame buffers, wherein each of the N frame buffers is written with data corresponding to the corresponding BRAID line group. The method also includes sequentially updating portions of the displayable region of the electro-optic display based on the data in each of the N frame buffers.

摘要: An electrophoretic medium comprises a fluid and first, second, third and fourth types of particles (W, Y, R, B) having four different colors. The first and third particles have charges of one polarity and the second and fourth particles charges of the opposite polarity; the first particles have a greater zeta potential or electrophoretic mobility than the third particles, and the second particles a greater zeta potential or electrophoretic mobility than the fourth particles. One particle is white (W), one non-white particle (B) is partially light-transmissive, and the remaining two non-white particles (R, Y) are light-reflective. A third light-reflective particle (G) may be added to create a five particle medium.
