摘要: A single-piece housing fixed brake caliper is provided with one relatively large piston bore on one side of the rotor and two relatively smaller piston bores on the opposing side of the rotor. The sum of the areas of the two relatively smaller pistons is equal to the area of the one relatively larger piston to provide balanced braking. The side of the caliper housing opposite the two relatively smaller bores contains two access cavities that provide clearance for the tooling that is necessarily positioned within the caliper to machine the bores. Similarly, the side of the caliper housing opposite the one relatively larger bore contains one access cavity that provides clearance for the tooling.

摘要: A slidable brake caliper system includes a retaining pin that is slip fit within a bore of a mounting bracket to slidably retain a caliper relative to the mounting bracket. A resilient cylindrical retaining support in combination with a resilient bushing and boot assembly support the retaining pin slidably within a bore of the mounting bracket. The caliper is clamped onto the retaining pin by a fastener assembly in a manner such that it is slidably retained relative to the mounting bracket to provide a clamping load to a pair of brake pad assemblies that are carried by the mounting bracket and are capable of applying a selective frictional force a rotating element. The caliper suspension system which includes the retaining pin provides a means for pivotably opening the caliper relative to the mounting bracket to replace the pads without complete removal of the retaining pins.

摘要: A retraction device for a disc brake caliper is provided having brake pads actuated by hydraulic fluid. The device includes a housing having a bore that defines an axis. A piston is disposed within the bore and is movable along the axis between applied and retracted positions. The piston includes an apply end adapted to coact with the brake pads in the applied position and a hydraulic end opposite the apply end. A hydraulic chamber is defined by the bore and the hydraulic end and contains hydraulic fluid for generating a brake pressure to achieve the applied position. An annular groove is formed in the bore adjacent to the piston, and the annular groove includes a forward angled surface. A resilient seal is disposed within the annular groove for retracting the piston from the applied position to the retracted position. The resilient seal has a first side adjacent the forward angled surface and a second side opposite the first side. A pressure mechanism is arranged adjacent to the second side and is in communication with the hydraulic chamber for generating a retaining pressure to retain the resilient seal against the forward angled surface in response to the brake pressure. The pressure mechanism releases the retaining pressure to permit the resilient seal to retract the piston when below the brake pressure.
