摘要: A method for producing a yarn for constructing non-carpet textile articles which comprises producing a large denier synthetic carpet face yarn by a bulked continuous filament or bulked crimped filament sheath-core extrusion process. The yarn has a denier of at least 300, and preferably around 1400, and is comprised of a plurality of filaments in the denier range of 10-20 denier per filament. Each filament has an outer sheath of nylon or polyester and an inner core of polyolefin, with the sheath comprising 20 to 60% of the total weight of each filament and the core constituting the remainder. The yarn, although very large by the standards applied to non-carpet textile articles, has a silky, soft feel similar to yarns composed of much smaller filaments of homopolymer nylon or polyester, and is thus well suited for the manufacture of non-carpet textile articles, such as upholstery fabrics, sweaters and the like.

摘要: A bi-component, multifilament synthetic dyeable carpet face yarn that is manufactured using the sheath-core melt spinning process is constructed so as to include a plurality of individual uniformly sheath-cored filaments having a sheath of virgin polyamide (e.g., nylon) and a polymer core that cannot be dyed using standard atmospheric pressure carpet dyeing methods used to dye the sheath filaments. This yarn is a less expensive substitute for 100% polyamide tufted carpet face yarn.

摘要: A novel olefin textile fabric knitted woven and non-woven that in one aspect of the invention is disperse dyed to a light, medium or deep solid shade. In another aspect, the textile fabrics of the present invention are manufactured using olefin yarns that contain variable amounts of dye acceptor additives. A fabric with more than one tone of a color is dyed in a single dye bath. The fabrics and yarn using this invention can be processed using conventional spinning, weaving, knitting, web forming machines and will dye using existing dyeing and finishing systems. This invention is of particular value in the apparel and home furnishings industry.

摘要: A novel olefin fiber or yarn, textile fabric or film is manufactured using olefin that contains variable amounts of a unique dyeable concentrate additive including relevant amounts of amorphous nylon and nylon 6 and/or nylon 66. Fabrics, fibers, yarns and films made according this invention can be processed using conventional nylon dyeing systems carried out at atmospheric pressure. The dyeable concentrate additive can be easily dosed into a conventional fiber or film extruder or can be formed into blended pellets which can be extruded into olefin fiber or film dyeable at atmospheric pressures. Multiple tones of a color can be dyed in a single dye bath by using different amounts of dyeable concentrate in different yarns or fibers. This invention is of particular value in the apparel, carpet, home furnishings and soft signage industries. Significant energy savings may be realized in carrying out the dyeing processes at atmospheric pressures.

摘要: A novel olefin or polyester (PET) fiber or yarn, or a textile fabric, tufted, knitted, woven and non-woven, is manufactured using olefin or polyester (PET) yarns that contain variable amounts of a unique dye acceptor additive. The fabrics and yarns using this invention can be processed using existing nylon dyeing and finishing systems at atmospheric pressure. The dye acceptor additive can be easily and inexpensively dosed into a conventional yarn or fiber extruder or can be incorporated in blended pellets which can be extruded into a nylon dyeable polyester (PET) or olefin fiber or yarn. A fabric with more than one tone of a color can be dyed in a single dye bath by using different amounts of additive in different yarns. This invention is of particular value in the apparel, carpet and home furnishings industries.

摘要: A method for treating yarn in package form with a yarn treating agent to modify the physical and/or chemical characteristics of the yarn comprising the steps of introducing the agent at selected portions of the outer surface of the package, and then infusing the agent into the package with a heated fluid applied under pressure. More particularly, the method of the present invention contemplates the treatment of yarn in package form with one or more dyes or dye acceptance modifiers to modify or dye the yarn fibers in a reproducible manner to provide repeating contiguous sections of yarn having the desired characteristics. In one preferred embodiment of the invention, a dye acceptance modifier in the form of a resist is infused into one or both of the ends of a yarn package and a heated fluid is then introduced under pressure at a temperature and for a time sufficient to cause the resist to partially penetrate the package and contact individual strands of yarn or fibers, and to set the resist, if necessary. In another preferred embodiment of the invention, a plurality of dyestuffs are introduced at the ends of the package, and a heated fluid, such as steam, is then introduced for a time sufficient to cause the dyes to at least partially penetrate the package. In addition, the present invention contemplates an apparatus in which the aforementioned method may be practiced to treat yarn in package form either with dyes, dye acceptance modifiers, or other treating agents, to achieve desired characteristics. In its preferred form, the apparatus comprises a foraminous member which permits treatment of the package at selected portions of the outer surface thereof.
