摘要: This invention relates to fly traps and specifically a window mounted fly trap which allows flies to enter from below or above and which has an internal barrier to prevent passage upward or downward through the trap. A window mounted fly trap comprising: (a) a frame for mounting to a window surface by detachable window mounting means; (b) a resilient cover having a non-adhesive first surface facing to the exterior of the frame and an adhesive second fly capture surface within the interior of the frame; said frame and cover defining therein a fly capture chamber; (c) the capture chamber having at least one ingress slot for permitting flies to enter the chamber; (d) wherein the flies walking on the surface of said window are permitted to enter the capture chamber and whereby the flies, when attempting to fly, contact the fly capture adhesive and are captured by said capture surface.

摘要: This invention relates to a novel method of attracting and trapping Drosophila species and a composition therefor. A method of attracting flies in the family Drosophilidae which comprises preparing an attractant which is a combination of a moistening agent, yeast and dried and powdered vegetable matter host substrate, including (but not limited to) banana, apple, pear, papaya, mango, orange, tomato, or vegetables, including (but not limited to) potato and squash, and placing this attractive lure in a trap.

摘要: This invention relates to novel methods and compositions, wherein chopped dried apple or apple pomace can be used as supplementary lures for trapping wasps in the family Vespidae in combination with volatile chemical attractants, including (but not limited to) heptyl butyrate, acetic acid and isobutanol. Said vespid wasps may be in the genera Vespa, Vespula, Dolichovespula or Polistes. When formulated in a porous bag immersed in a water-detergent capture medium at the bottom of the interior chamber of an Oak Stump trap, either chopped dried apple or apple pomace can increase the capture of said vespid wasps several fold.

摘要: This invention relates to the use of volatiles from the bark of non-host angiosperm trees to protect coniferous trees from attack by bark beetles. Individual compounds or mixtures selected from 18 non-host bark volatiles, identified by coupled gas chromatographic-electroantennographic detection analysis, and deployed alone or with an antiaggregation pheromone or a green leaf volatile, or mixture thereof, are demonstrated to repel conifer-infesting bark beetles from attractant-baited traps, and to protect attractant-baited trees from attack.

摘要: A novel combination of five queen-produced mandibular gland substances which can be used for controlling worker retinue formation around or in place of a honey bee queen Apis mellifera L. is disclosed. The composition comprises: 9-keto-2(E)-decenoic acid, R-(-)- and S-(+)-9-hydroxy-2(E)-decenoic acid, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, and 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylethanol. Each component more or less is generally weakly active alone, but the blend of five compounds in a ratio corresponding to their occurrence in gland extracts imparts activity equivalent to queen mandibular extract at a level as low as 10.sup.-7 of that present in a queen. This blend of compounds initiates the retinue response, which includes the licking and antennating behaviour that signals the presence of a dominant reproductive queen, and thereby establishes and stabilizes the social fabric of the colony.
