Abstract: Examples described herein provide a computer-implemented method that includes receiving a point cloud representative of a real-world environment. The method further includes simulating a projection of a laser projector into a virtual environment based at least in part on the point cloud, the virtual environment representative of the real-world environment. The method further includes evaluating the projection to determine whether at least one projector preference is satisfied. The method further includes, responsive to determining that the at least one projector preference is not satisfied, adjusting at least one of a position of the laser projector, an orientation of the laser projector, or a property of the laser projector.

A light projector steers an outgoing beam of light onto an object, passing light returned from the object through a focusing lens onto an optical detector. The light projector may generate a light pattern or template by rapidly moving the outgoing beam of light along a path on a surface. To place the light pattern/template in a desired location, the light projector may be aligned with an electronic model.
