Abstract: A solid-state battery module includes a housing, a pre-compressed solid-state battery cell stack disposed within the housing, and first and second opposed interior surfaces facing and compressing the pre-compressed solid-state battery cell stack therebetween. At least one of the first and second interior surfaces is curved and configured to increase compression in a low pressure central area of the pre-compressed solid-state battery cell stack to facilitate providing an even distribution of pressure across the pre-compressed solid-state battery cell stack.

Abstract: A system includes a battery module with a plurality of walls having a first end wall spaced apart from a second end wall. A plurality of battery cells disposed between the first end wall and the second end wall. The system also includes an inlet module pump communicating dielectric fluid into the battery module into a space between the battery cells and the walls. A compressible element is disposed adjacent to at least one of the plurality of battery cells and has an element wall and an element pump communicating dielectric fluid from the space into the compressible element. The system also includes a pressure sensor generating a pressure signal indicative of the pressure within the battery module. The system also includes a controller coupled to the inlet module pump and the element pump and the pressure sensor, said controller configured to control a pressure within the compressible element based on the pressure signal.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a solid-state battery module includes providing a housing, providing a solid-state battery cell stack, and pre-compressing the solid-state battery cell stack. The method further includes inserting, while pre-compressed, the solid-state battery cell stack into the housing, and releasing the pre-compression of the inserted pre-compressed solid-state battery cell stack such that the solid-state battery cell stack expands to establish a compression fit within the housing.

Abstract: A battery module compression system includes a battery module having a first end wall spaced apart from a second end wall. Battery cells are disposed between the first and second end walls. A fluid path is between the plurality of battery cells and the walls. An inlet valve is in fluid communication with an inlet module pump communicating dielectric fluid into the battery module into the fluid path between the battery cells and the walls. A pressure sensor generates a pressure signal indicative of the pressure within the battery module. A temperature sensor generates a temperature signal indicative of the temperature within the battery module. A controller is coupled to the inlet module pump, the inlet valve and an outlet valve to independently control a flow rate into the battery module and the pressure within the battery module based on the temperature signal, and the pressure signal.

Abstract: A battery pack assembly for an electrified vehicle includes a first battery cell, a second battery cell and a first spacer disposed intermediate the first and second battery cells. The first spacer includes a first layer of material disposed between a first and second backing plate. The first layer of material defines a plurality of passages formed therein having a first geometric shape. The first layer of material is formed of a first polymer. A first plurality of filler members are disposed within the respective plurality of passages and define a second geometric shape. The plurality of filler members are formed of a second polymer. The first and second polymers are distinct.
