Abstract: Filling methods and systems are provided for a conformable fuel tank. In one example, a system comprises an active thermal management arrangement for the conformable fuel tank. The active thermal management arrangement comprises one or more recirculation passage for mixing hot fuel distal to an inlet port of the conformable fuel tank with cool incoming fuel flowing to the inlet port.

The controller, responsive to an amplitude of cyclic changes in voltage of at least some of the fuel cells exceeding a threshold, a frequency of the cyclic changes being within a predetermined range of a frequency associated with the anode injector system, and the voltage being less than a predetermined value, disables the fuel cell stack.

Abstract: A hydrogen-water separator for a fuel cell includes an upper separation chamber having a first cylindrical sidewall defining an inlet port and a lower collection chamber configured to collect separated water. The collection chamber has a bottom and a second cylindrical sidewall defining a drain port disposed above the bottom. A divider is disposed between the separation chamber and the collection chamber. The divider spans the first cylindrical sidewall and defining one or more openings. An outlet tube is arranged vertically in the separation chamber and having an entrance that is disposed above the divider and below the inlet port.

Abstract: A fuel cell system in a vehicle has a cathode and an anode. A compressor has an inlet and an outlet, the outlet being configured to outlet a compressed air from the compressor. A bypass line is configured to return the compressed air from the outlet to the inlet such that the air returns to the compressor in a loop. A valve is located downstream of the compressor and is operable in a plurality of modes. In a first mode, the valve is configured to block the air from the cathode and return the air via the bypass line. In a second mode, the valve is configured to direct at least some of the air to the cathode. The valve can also be configured to operate in a third mode in which the air is sent to the cathode without going through the bypass line.

The processor, responsive to a crowdsourced average value of an operating parameter of an auxiliary fuel cell stack component of other fuel cell vehicles being different, for a pre-defined power level, than an average value of a same operating parameter of the auxiliary fuel cell stack component by a pre-determined amount, purge the fuel cell stack of nitrogen.

Abstract: A fuel cell system in a vehicle includes a fuel cell stack and a cooling system for cooling the fuel cell stack. The cooling system has a radiator and at least one pump configured to supply coolant to the fuel cell stack. A controller operates the cooling system to actively cool the fuel cell stack while the vehicle is shut down in response to conditions indicating that the next time the vehicle will be started, it will be a cold start. The controller can then, subsequent to initiating the cooling, purge the fuel cell stack.
