摘要: Latex spray foams formed from a two-part foamable composition are provided. The A-side contains a functionalized latex and an acid and the B-side contains a polyfunctional aziridine crosslinking agent, a plasticizer, a base, and, optionally, a non-functionalized resin. The acid and the base form a blowing agent package that when mixed, react to form a gas. The A- and B-side also contain thickening agents. The polyfunctional aziridine crosslinking agent is diluted by a plasticizer, which reduces the viscosity of the B-side and reduces the amount of ethyleneimine, a toxic component in the polyfunctional aziridine crosslinking agent. The presence of a plasticizer also permits the inclusion of other materials that may add functionality and/or cost savings to the foamed product. The plasticizer should have no acidic protons to react with the crosslinking agent. When no acidic protons are present, the B-side is stable for extended periods of time.

摘要: Materials and methods for providing building barriers are provided. The material may comprise a latex foam, which may include an A-side containing a functionalized latex and a B-side that contains a crosslinking agent and optionally a non-functionalized latex. The A- and/or B-side may contain a blowing agent package or components forming the blowing agent package. The blowing agent package may be the combination of two or more chemicals that when mixed together form a gas or a chemical compound that, when activated by heat or light, forms a gas. In an alternate embodiment, the latex foam includes a functionalized latex, an acid, and an encapsulated crosslinking agent and base. Alternatively, the spray latex may include a functionalized latex, a crosslinking agent, and an encapsulated dry acid and dry base. The encapsulating agent may be a protective, non-reactive shell that can be broken or melted at the time of application.

摘要: An fibrous insulation product is provided that includes a binder comprising a polyol and a phosphorus crosslinking agent derived from a phosphonic or phosphoric acid, salt, ester or anhydride to form crosslinked phosphodiester linkages. The polyol is polyvalent, but may be monomeric or preferably polymeric; and may be synthetic or natural in origin. Carbohydrate polysaccharides are exemplary polyols, including water-soluble polysaccharides such as dextrin, maltodextrin, starch, modified starch, etc. Additionally, the carbohydrate polymer may have a dextrose equivalent (DE) number from 2 to 20. In exemplary embodiments, the binder may also include a catalyst, a coupling agent, a process aid, and other additives. The environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free binder may be used in the formation of residential and commercial insulation materials and non-woven chopped strand mats. A method of making fibrous products is also provided.

摘要: The specification describes a process for making gelled ink resins which exhibit improved properties such as lower viscosity under low shear and less viscosity decrease with increasing shear. In a preferred embodiment, a rosin-based or hydrocarbon-based resin is mixed with an organic solvent and reacted with a polyamine reactant, such as melamine-formaldehyde resin or hexamethylene diamine, under conditions sufficient to produce a substantially covalently cross-link gelled resin. The resulting gelled resin resists viscosity breakdown under high shear conditions and may be used directly for making ink compositions, obviating the need for further gelation and avoiding the use of conventional organo-metallic gelling agents.

摘要: A composition for reducing undesirable odors emitted by hydrocarbonaceous materials is provided. The composition contains at least one aldehyde-containing compound and, optionally, one or more ketone-containing compound and/or a carrier. The composition is free of ester-containing compounds. In at least one exemplary embodiment, the composition contains one or more aldehyde-containing compounds and a liquid carrier. The aldehyde-containing compound(s) has a molecular weight greater than 100 daltons and may be chosen from vanillin or cinnamaldehyde. The ketone-containing compound(s) has a molecular weight greater than 100 daltons, and in exemplary embodiments, from about 120 to about 1,000 daltons. Undesirable odors from hot asphalt are reduced by the composition without adversely affecting the physical and performance properties of the asphalt or decreasing the flash point of the asphalt. The composition may be added to asphalt in a molten or semi-molten form to reduce or eliminate unpleasant odors and form a low odor asphalt.
