Abstract:
An anti-corrosive coating composition includes as an anti-corrosive pigment dispersed in a film-forming binder a salt of a polyvalent metal cation and an organic polyphosphonic acid containing at least 2 phosphonic acid groups. The ratio of polyvalent metal cations to phosphonate groups in the salt is at least 0.8/n:1, where n is the valency of the polyvalent metal ion.
Abstract:
A water-based coating composition which emits very little pollutants on curing to a water-resistant coating comprises a synthetic resin containing free carboxyl groups held in solution or stable dispersion in water by an amine. The amine is a tertiary carbinamine containing at least two hydroxymethyl groups bonded to the carbon atom carrying the amine group. The coating compositions react with formaldehyde to produce stable fluid emulsion coating compositions having similar properties on curing. The coating compositions are used to coat substrates.
Abstract:
A coating composition comprises a water dilutable dispersion of (a) the reaction product of an epoxy resin with a primary or secondary amine and (b) a polymer containing free carboxyl groups. The epoxy resin and amine are preferably reacted in an organic solvent and a solution of the reaction product is mixed with a solution of the carboxyl-containing polymer (b) in an amount sufficient to provide an excess of free carboxyl groups over the amine groups in the epoxy resin reaction product (a). The coating composition is preferably applied to a substrate in the form of an aqueous dispersion in which (a) and (b) are held in stable dispersion by a base such as ammonia or an amine.
