Abstract:
An inlet frame and a method of additively manufacturing the same are provided. The inlet frame includes a forward annular body spaced apart from a rear annular body to define an inlet passageway in fluid communication with a compressor inlet. The inlet frame may define integral wash manifolds and discharge ports for directing a flow of wash fluid directly through the compressor inlet. In addition, inlet frame may define one or more integral annular heating plenums in fluid communication with a hot air source for heating regions of the inlet frame that are prone to icing conditions.
Abstract:
A spoolie manifold including two or more spaced apart caps including outlets and one pair of caps connected together in flow communication by a jumper tube assembly. Jumper tube assembly including a jumper tube having first and second spoolies attached to opposite ends of the jumper tube. Ends may be welded into counterbores of the spoolies having spherical spoolie ends press-fitted into first and second sleeves in bores in pair of the caps and sleeves retained in bores with retainer clips. A duct connected in flow communication to an inlet of one of the caps. Spoolie manifold may include three spaced apart caps including a distributor cap between two port caps connected in flow communication to distributor cap by jumper tube assembly. Cap outlets may be feed strut ports in casing of turbine frame including hub spaced inwardly from casing and having spaced apart hollow struts with strut ports.
Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to separating entrained solid particles from an input airflow in a gas turbine engine. A cyclonic separator receives the input airflow from a compressor and separates a first portion of the input airflow. The cyclonic separator remove solid particles from the first portion of the input airflow to provide a first cleaned airflow to a first cooling system. A clean air offtake downstream from the cyclonic separator separates a second cleaned airflow from a remaining portion of the input air stream and provides the second cleaned airflow to a second cooling system. The remaining portion of the input airflow is provided to a combustor.
Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to methods for additive manufacturing (AM) that utilize integrated ribs to support thin walled annular structures. An annular wall fabricated using AM has a thickness less than 0.022 inches across a majority of a surface of the annular wall and a plurality of ribs having a thickness greater than 0.030 inches. The annular wall has a mean thickness less than 0.100 inches. The annular wall conforms to a surface of the component and a mean distance between the annular wall and the component is less than 0.080 inches.
Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to monolithic superstructures for supporting a rotating shaft coupled to a rotor relative to a stator. An integral superstructure supports the rotating component. The superstructure includes a bearing portion that contacts the shaft. A stator portion, is spaced a critical dimension radially outward, from the rotor. A first annular transfer portion extends axially forward from the bearing to the stator portion. A second annular transfer portion extends axially aft from the stator portion to a mounting flange. The mounting flange connects the superstructure to a frame. The superstructure maintains a critical dimension between the rotor and the stator as the temperature of the superstructure increases. The rotor may be a compressor impeller in a gas turbine engine and the stator may be an aero component that transfers air into a combustor.

The present disclosure generally relates to methods for additive manufacturing (AM) for fabricating multi-walled structures. A multi-walled structure includes a first wall having a first surface and a second wall having a second surface facing the first surface to define a passage having a width between the first surface and the second surface in a first direction. The multi-walled structure also includes an enlarged powder removal feature connecting the first wall and the second wall. The enlarged powder removal feature has an inner dimension greater than the width in the first direction and at least one open end in a direction transverse to the first width.
