    Abstract: A machining apparatus is disclosed, which includes a curved outer conduit, a curved rotary electrode and a driving motor. The outer conduit has a cavity and a fluid inlet in fluid communication with the cavity. The electrode includes a flexible shaft positioned in the cavity and having a first end and a second end, and a machining head having a fluid outlet in fluid communication with the cavity and electrically connected with the first end of the flexible shaft to be powered via the flexible shaft. The motor is mechanically coupled to the second end of the flexible shaft for driving the flexible shaft to rotate. A machining system is also disclosed, which includes the machining apparatus, a power supply for powering the flexible shaft, an electrolyte supply for providing electrolyte to the fluid inlet and a machine tool onto which the outer conduit and the motor are positioned.

    Abstract: An apparatus for electrically machining including a rotatable shaft and an electrode for electrically machining is disclosed. The electrode is movably connected to the rotatable shaft. When the rotatable shaft is rotated, the electrode rotates together with the rotatable shaft and moves relative to the rotatable shaft under an action of centrifugal force. Further disclosed is a method for electrically machining including: movably connecting an electrode to a rotatable shaft; inserting the rotatable shaft into a hole in a workpiece, and keeping a gap between the electrode and the workpiece, wherein the hole has a first diameter; powering on the electrode and the workpiece; rotating the rotatable shaft in the hole to generate centrifugal force; and pushing the electrode relative to the rotatable shaft towards the workpiece under an action of the centrifugal force to remove a portion of a material of the hole.

    Abstract: A process for providing a manufacturing modality for a hybrid article includes defining a model for a build surface on a part in a three dimensional space, and defining a model for an additive structure, the model including an interface surface of the additive structure that corresponds with the build surface in the three dimensional space. The process further includes orienting the x, y and z coordinates of each of the build surface of the part and the interface surface of the model in relation to a three dimensional work space, aligning contours of each of the build surface and the interface surface relative to the work space, and directing a cladding system to define toolpaths for two or more cladding layers that are defined by vertical planar segments or slices of the additive structure model.
