    Abstract: A sliding layer for a multi-layer bearing material that is free of lead. The sliding layer can include PTFE, sphalerite, and solid lubricants. The solid lubricants can include graphite and antimony oxide. In some embodiments, the sliding layer includes from 70 to 80 vol % PTFE, from 10-20 vol % sphalerite, and from 1 to 10 vol % solid lubricant (for example, graphite and antimony oxide).

In some embodiments, the solid lubricant composition is applied to an interior surface of a cylindrical plain bearing. In other embodiments, a polymer sliding layer having a plurality of indentations formed therein is applied to the interior surface of a metal shell, and the solid lubricant composition described herein is disposed in the indentations, to thereby form a cylindrical plain bearing having a sliding layer of both the polymer material and the solid lubricant composition.
