Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an aqueous lubricating composition comprising, based on the weight of the composition: from 1 to 20 wt. % of a) at least one water-soluble inorganic salt, said inorganic salt or salts being in a dissolved state; b) at least one particulate solid lubricant; from 0.1 to 5 wt. % of c) at least one rheological control agent; from 0.1 to 5 wt. % of d) at least one base; and, from 0.1 to 5 wt. % of e) at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants and zwitterionic surfactants, wherein said composition is free from boron and boron compounds and is further characterized in that the ratio by weight of b) said at least one solid lubricant to a) said at least one water-soluble inorganic salt [(b):(a)] is from 0.1:1 to 1:1.

Abstract: A dry gas seal assembly for use with a rotating machine that includes a rotating shaft, the seal assembly comprises a seal face bears a solid coating comprising molybdenum disulfide, graphene oxide, and optionally polydopamine, preferably wherein the graphene oxide to molybdenum disulfide ratio is 8:10 to 10:8. A method for making a dry gas seal assembly comprises coating a homogeneous dispersion of graphene oxide and molybdenum disulfide on a seal face.

Abstract: In some examples, an article includes a substrate and a coating on the substrate. The coating includes a stabilized microstructure including Magnéli oxide phase including an oxide of at least one of W, Mo, Nb, Ta, or Re. In some examples, a technique may include forming a coating including a refractory metal on a surface of a substrate. The technique also may include heat treating the coating at a temperature between about 500° C. and about 700° C. to form a coating including a stabilized microstructure including Magnéli oxide phase. The stabilized microstructure including Magnéli oxide phase may include an oxide of at least one of W, Mo, Nb, Ta, or Re. In some examples, the coating including the stabilized microstructure including Magnéli oxide phase exhibits a coefficient of friction that is at least 25% less than the coefficient of friction exhibited by the as-deposited coating under similar conditions.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems for applying a coating to a non-ferrous or ferrous material that includes providing a material, a heat source, an immersion tank, and a drying environment. The material is placed within the heat source and heated to a temperature between the range of between about 204.44° C. to about 537.78° C. (400° F. to about 1000° F.). The material is immersed within an immersion containing a ratio of molybdenum disulfide solution to water of between about 2:1 to about 4:1 at a temperature between about 26.67° C. to about 48.89° C. (about 80° F. to 120° F.), and the material is dried at a temperature between about 51.67° C. to about 98.89° C. (125° F. and 210° F.).
