摘要: A ladle, process, and system for casting an aluminum-based alloy includes a casting ladle. The casting ladle includes a cup and the cup defines an opening. The ladle also includes an ultrasonic transducer including an end immersed in the cup, wherein the cup exhibits a first depth and the ultrasonic transducer is immersed in the cup at a second depth in a range of 5 percent to 100 percent of the first depth. An aluminum-based alloy melt is introduced into an opening of a casting ladle, an ultrasonic transducer immersed in the aluminum-based alloy melt is activated, and the aluminum-based alloy melt is transferred onto a casting surface.

摘要: The present invention provides improved clutch plates for use in wet friction pack clutches and brakes which exhibit greatly reduced flutter particularly at high rotational speeds. Friction clutches and brakes include a first plurality of circular clutch plates or discs coupled to a first member comprising a metal core plate having bands of friction material affixed to both faces. These clutch plates are interleaved with a second plurality of circular metal reaction plates which are coupled to a second member. The metal core plate of the first plurality of clutch plates includes a plurality of radial slots spaced about the core plate which extend inwardly a portion of the radial width of the clutch core plate. Different numbers of slots, different spacings and different configurations of slots provide reduced plate flutter with varying thicknesses of core plates and ranges of rotational speeds.

摘要: A friction clutch assembly for an automatic transmission, a friction clutch plate, and a method of forming a friction clutch plate are provided. The method includes providing a friction material layer for a face of the friction clutch plate and cutting the friction material layer with a laser beam to form a plurality of grooves within the friction material layer. In one version, a friction plate for the friction clutch assembly includes an annular core plate having first and second opposed faces and defining an outer edge and an inner edge. Friction material is affixed to at least one of the first and second opposed faces. The friction material defines a plurality of grooves within the friction material, each groove being bordered by friction material having a ridge. The cross-section of the ridge has a corner having a radius of curvature that is less than 300 microns.

摘要: A method for densifying a surface of a powder metal part, includes blending a plurality of powdered metals to form a powder metal blend, actuating an upper punch and a lower punch to apply pressure to the powder metal blend to compact the powder metal blend, sintering the compacted powder metal blend in an oven, forming the compacted powdered metal blend into the powder metal part, heating a portion of the surface of the powder metal part, and densifying the portion of the surface of the powder metal part for a predetermined period of time after the portion of the powder metal part is heated to a predetermined temperature.

摘要: A friction clutch pack exhibiting improved high speed stability includes a first plurality of friction plates or discs preferably having friction material on both faces interleaved with a second plurality of thicker reaction plates or discs. The friction plates comprise a formed core plate having multiple obliquely oriented or angularly offset sinusoidal waves. Male splines around the periphery of each friction plate engage complementary splines on a cylindrical housing. The reaction plates are flat and thicker than the friction plates and include female splines around an inner opening which engage complementary splines on a shaft or quill.
