Abstract: A method of forming an additive manufactured component comprises depositing a first layer of build material on a build platform within an additive manufacturing machine, depositing reinforcement fibers into the first layer of build material, orienting the reinforcement fibers within the first layer of build material, lowering the build platform, depositing a second layer of build material on top of the first layer of build material, depositing reinforcement fibers into the second layer of build material, and orienting the reinforcement fibers within the second layer of build material.

Abstract: An additive manufacturing method comprises: positioning a sheet of composite material; curing a predetermined portion of the sheet; cutting the sheet about the perimeter of the predetermined portion to create a preceding processed sheet; adding a successive sheet of composite material atop and in contact with the preceding processed sheet; curing a predetermined portion of the successive sheet such that the predetermined portions of the successive sheet and the preceding processed sheet are bonded together; and cutting the successive sheet about the perimeter of its predetermined portion to create a subsequent processed sheet. The steps of adding, curing and cutting a successive sheet may be repeated for a plurality of cycles to produce a three-dimensional composite product.

Abstract: A method to manufacture an automobile vehicle engine aluminum piston, comprises: printing an aluminum piston crown portion including an additive manufacturing (AM) piston crown work piece using initial aluminum powders defining an initial aluminum powder bed; removing the aluminum piston crown portion from the initial aluminum powder bed; fixedly joining a cast iron ring carrier to the AM piston crown work piece; placing the aluminum piston crown portion together with the cast iron ring carrier into a secondary and a tertiary aluminum powder bed; and printing a piston skirt integrally connected to the AM piston crown work piece and to the cast iron ring carrier.

Abstract: A system and method for additive manufacturing includes a fusing mechanism, an outlet and a controller. The system and method is performed in a chamber containing a layer of particle. The fusing mechanism transmits a beam for fusing particles in the layer of particles. The fusing mechanism is configured to move the beam in a fusing path extending from one end of the chamber to another end of the chamber in a first direction. The outlet is movable in the first direction and configured to blow air in a second direction opposite of the first direction. The controller is configured to move the outlet in the first direction and keep the outlet upstream of the beam.

Abstract: Products and methods are provided for additive manufacturing of products in a collapsed state for post printing expansion in preparation for use in their intended application. A product includes interconnecting members configured for forming by printing in a collapsed state, with joints between the interconnecting members configured for relative movement of the interconnected members from the collapsed state to an expanded state. The interconnecting members define a larger package size in the expanded state than in the collapsed state. The joints are freely moveable in the collapsed state and are locked in place in the expanded state.
