Abstract: AN APPRATUS FOR AT LEAST PARTIALLY FILLING A MOLDED AND VULCANIZED TIRE WITH FOAMABLE, ELASTOMERIC MATERIAL. THE APPARATUS HAS A PAIR OF PARALLEL, UPPER AND LOWER BEAD SEATS ON WHICH A VULCANIZED TIRE IS MOUNTED. AN INFLATABLE RING IS MOVED INTO POSITION FOR ANNULARLY ENGAGING AND CONSTRICTING THE TIER TO MAINTAIN THE BEADS OF THE TIRE IN FIRM SEATED RELATION AGAINST THE BEAD SEATS. AN EXTERNALLY, ACCESSIBLE CHAMBER IS MOVABLE INTO COMMUNICATING RELATION WITH THE ANNULAR CAVITY OF THE TIRE MOUNTED ON THE BEAD SEATS. UNFOAMED, ELASTOMERIC MATERIAL IS THEN PLACED IN THE CHAMBER AND A RAM IS USED TO FORCE THE MATERIAL FROM THE CHAMBER INTO THE TIRTE CAVITY. THE RAM CARRIES A BLADDER WHICH IS CENTERED IN THE SPACE BETWEEN THE BEAD SEATS AND INFLATED TO COMPRESS THE MATERIAL WITHIN THE TIRE CAVITY AGAINST THE INNER CROWN OF THE TIRE. THE VARIOUS COMPONENTS ARE THEN MOVED OUT OF INTERFERING RELATION WITH REMOVAL OF THE FILLED TIRE FROM THE MACHINE. THE FILLED TIRE IS THEN MOUNTED ON A WHEEL RIM AND HEATED TO FOAM AND CURE THE ELASTOMERIC MATERIAL IN THE TIRE CAVITY.

Abstract: A mill for forming a thin sheet of a curable elastomer and a tire carcass-receiving drum are combined in apparatus including a conveyor spaced from the mill and engageable with a tire carcass on the drum so as to rotate the drum and wind thereon a continuous plurality of convolutions of the sheet. Slitters located in a space traversed by the sheet between the mill and the conveyor and controlled by a profiling device to be movable in timed relation to the rotation of the carcass vary the width or widths of the sheet portion applied while a second conveyor diverts remaining portions of the sheet from the first conveyor for return to the mill. Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously measuring the lateral spring rate of a rotating tire. A tire is mounted on a rotatable tire support and urged against an anvil means which is mounted for rectilinear movement relative to a fixed support and in a line parallel to the rotational axis of the tire. Drive means are provided for rotating the tire and imparting the rectilinear motion to the anvil. Abstract: A machine for cutting a tread design, or a series of configured grooves in a molded blank tread of a tire. A precast or molded pattern with a predetermined tread design, and a tire with a blank tread are mounted on the machine for unitary rotation in parallel planes. The machine has a sensor and cutter which are mounted in corresponding spaced relation from the pattern and tire, respectively. The cutter moves in cutting relation with the blank tread in corresponding relation to movement of the sensor over the pattern, such that the tread design on the molded pattern is duplicated on the tread of the tire.
