Abstract:
A device for automatically lubricating the edges of the rims of a tire shaping drum including a pivoting arm member having disposed on the end thereof an absorbent member adapted to be positioned proximate to the rims of the tire shaping drum whereby lubricant may be metered to the absorbent material in order to allow the rim of the tire shaping drum to be automatically lubricated in response to control signals provided by a programmable controller.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire which comprises:a tread portion; a breaker structure to brace the tread portion; two sidewalls each having an associated bead containing a bead core, and each sidewall containing a reinforcing ply of cords anchored around the bead core of the respective one of said associated beads and extending into the tread portion radially outwardly of the breaker structure to overlap at least part of the width of the breaker structure but terminating short of the other of said associated beads.
Abstract:
A device for transferring a tire carcass having a substantially cylindrical outer surface and provided with core rings, from a tire building-up station to a forming station. This transfer is effected by means of an annular holder composed of segments and provided with suction cups adapted to be placed onto the outer substantially cylindrical surface of the carcass to be transferred for supporting the carcass. The holder is variable in diameter and is supported by a carrier which is movable from the tire building-up station to the forming station. The holder has curved segmental supporting elements for supporting at least one end portion of a carcass engaged and carried by the suction cups which are selectively connectable to a vacuum creating device.
Abstract:
A mill for forming a thin sheet of a curable elastomer and a tire carcass-receiving drum are combined in apparatus including a conveyor spaced from the mill and engageable with a tire carcass on the drum so as to rotate the drum and wind thereon a continuous plurality of convolutions of the sheet. Slitters located in a space traversed by the sheet between the mill and the conveyor and controlled by a profiling device to be movable in timed relation to the rotation of the carcass vary the width or widths of the sheet portion applied while a second conveyor diverts remaining portions of the sheet from the first conveyor for return to the mill. The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawings and the following detailed description.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method wherein strip material is clamped to a shuttle finger slidably mounted in a shuttle casing which in turn is slidably mounted on a strip applier frame. The shuttle casing and shuttle finger are movable simultaneously from a retracted first position to a second position with the end of the shuttle casing adjacent an applicator roll. The shuttle finger is then movable by itself from the second position to a third position for transferring a tongue portion of the strip onto the applicator roll. The tongue portion may then be elevated into clamping engagement with the drum and the strip released from the shuttle finger. The shuttle casing and shuttle finger may then be returned to the first position, the drum rotated a predetermined amount to partially wrap the strip around the drum and the strip cut at a predetermined location whereupon the drum is rotated to fully wrap the strip of flexible material around the drum. Guide members at the front edges of the feed path are retractable to permit movement of the shuttle casing into close proximity with the applicator roll. Also a cycle reset clamping assembly is provided for clamping a portion of the strip of flexible material to the applicator roll to allow the shuttle casing to move to the retracted position for cutting of the strip of flexible material in that position when the applicator roll is not elevated into contact with the drum.
Abstract:
A tire building machine including a building drum for receiving a belt-tread assembly and a pair of coaxial shafts having disc members freely rotatable thereon for receiving and supporting a tire carcass. The disc members and shafts are pivotally movable as a unit and the disc members are also movable with respect to one another for engaging annular beads formed on said carcass to effect a seal therewith and permit the introduction of air to inflate said carcass to assume a toroidal shape. A radially expansible and contractable transfer ring, that is axially movable, engages the belt-tread assembly and transfers same from the drum to the carcass prior to the pivoting of the carcass, belts and tread stock into engagement with a rotatably driven stitcher apparatus.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for feeding an elongated strip onto a tire component building drum are especially adapted for applying breaker strips to giant radial tire breaker building drums. The apparatus includes a carriage with roller means for conveying the strip that is mounted on the same side of the building drum as the operator stands while applying the strip to the drum. The carriage is movable on a track on a frame mounted on a floor on which the operator stands, and the track and frame extend upwardly from the floor and are preferably slanted toward the drum. A roll of strip to be applied to the drum is contained in a roll support means near where the frame is mounted on the floor, and the strip is unwound from the roll and passed over rollers on the carriage and onto the drum. By moving the carriage on the track, the position of the carriage can be adjusted to the position that is best, in the judgment of the operator, for applying the strip to the drum.
Abstract:
A process for manufacturing radial type motor vehicle pneumatic tires is provided in which an annular reinforcing structure is disposed on a toric carcass. The reinforcing structure is built up of two layers of metallic cords crossed with each other, and an additional third layer of heat shrinkable textile cords that form, with the longitudinal direction of the tire, an angle which is not zero and is a smaller angle than that of the underlying cords. The third textile layer is applied by butt-joining its respective opposite ends along a straight line parallel to the metallic cords of the underlying metallic layer.
