Abstract: A method for making smart glasses includes obtaining a monocoque temple pre-form made as a one-piece seamless shell structure with shell walls enclosing a hollow compartment. The hollow compartment has an open end and a bottom opposite the open end. The method further includes inserting a first pre-assembled smart glasses components module into the hollow compartment through the open end of the hollow compartment and disposing the first pre-assembled smart glasses components module at a bottom of the hollow compartment. The method further includes inserting a second pre-assembled smart glasses components module through the open end of the hollow compartment, electrically connecting the second pre-assembled smart glasses components module to the first pre-assembled smart glasses components module, and attaching the monocoque temple pre-form to a frame of the smart glasses.

Abstract: A cover is described for use in protecting near infrared sensors mounted to an augmented reality headset. Manufacturing the cover includes a polycarbonate injection molding process followed by a multi-coating deposition process. Contours of the sensor apparatus can be masked prior to the deposition to improve yield.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for detecting ambient light with wearable heads-up displays are described. An ambient light sensor can be positioned close to a user's eye area on a user-side of a wearable heads-up display. By positioning the ambient light sensor on a user-side of the wearable heads up display, the ambient light sensor can be in a position and/or orientation which receives ambient light in a similar manner a user's eye, and thus ambient light detection can be more accurate. Brightness of display light output by the wearable heads-up display can be adjusted in response to the detected brightness of ambient light.

An opening at one end of the one-piece seamless shell structure provides physical access to insides of the hollow compartment. The method further includes disposing one or more smart glasses components in the hollow compartment through the opening in the shell structure, and attaching the temple pre-form with the one or more smart glasses components disposed in the hollow compartment to a frame of the smart glasses.
