Abstract: Techniques involve a smartglasses device having sensors, processing circuitry, and a lens including an adaptive optical device. The processing circuitry is configured to receive, from the sensors, an indication that a context of the wearer has changed. In response to such an indication, the processing circuitry adjusts a voltage applied to the adaptive optical device. In some implementations, the adaptive optical device includes a liquid crystal optic that is configured to change an optical power of the lens in response to a change in applied voltage. In this way, the smartglasses device enables a wearer to see clearly in a variety of contexts without any manual adjustment of the frame or lenses.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes tinting techniques in a lens stack assembly for a wearable head mounted display (WHMD). The lens stack assembly includes a waveguide disposed between two lenses, where the two lenses include tints to selectively reduce the amount of ambient light transmitted to the user while not reducing the amount of the display light in the WHMD. In addition, the tinting techniques described herein reduce or eliminate the generation of ghost images resulting from the reflection of outcoupled light from the waveguide away from the user back toward the user.

Abstract: Systems, articles, and methods integrate photopolymer film with eyeglass lenses. One or more hologram(s) may be recorded into/onto the photopolymer file to enable the lens to be used as a transparent holographic combiner in a wearable heads-up display employing an image source, such as a microdisplay or a scanning laser projector. The methods of integrating photopolymer film with eyeglass lenses include: positioning photopolymer film in a lens mold and casting the lends around the photopolymer film; sandwiching photopolymer film in between two portions of a lens applying photo polymer film to a concave surface of a lens and/or affixing a planar carrier (with photopolymer film thereon) to two points across a length of a concave surface of a lens.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and assemblies for implementing multi-focal lens portions in wearable heads-up displays are described. Multi-focal lens portions may include at least two regions having different optical power, and at least one transition region between regions having different optical power. If display light is directed through a transition region, aberrations or distortion may be visible in the display presented to the user. The present systems, devices, and assemblies address this issue through shaping, positioning, and orienting of regions of a multi-focal lens portion, through positioning, orientation, and aiming of display optics, and/or through arrangements of lens assemblies which prevent display light from travelling through a multi-focal lens portion.

Abstract: A display system comprises a first frame structure housing one or more processors and wearable proximate to a user's eye, and a second frame structure coupled to a light engine and various optical elements. The light engine generates display light indicative of graphical content, with the optical elements channeling the display light to the user's eye. The processors of the first frame structure control operations of the light engine via a selectively detachable connection between an electromechanical interface of the first frame structure and a corresponding electromechanical interface of the second frame structure.

Abstract: A system includes a head-mounted display (HMD) device configured to project digital images to a user's eye and a viewing device. The viewing device includes an optical relay unit having a world-facing surface and an eye-facing surface and a holder coupled to the optical relay unit and configured to support the HMD device near the world-facing surface. The optical relay unit is configured to transmit light projected by the HMD device to an eye-facing aperture disposed at the eye-facing surface of the optical relay. The system shifts an eyebox of the HMD by receiving light projected from an optical combiner of the HMD, transmitting the light through the optical relay unit of the viewing device to the eye-facing aperture of the optical relay unit, and outputting the light from the eye-facing aperture such that the light is focused at an eyebox in which a user's eye is located.

AUGMENTED REALITY SMARTGLASSES DISPLAY CALIBRATION IN THE PRESENCE OF PRESCRIPTION LENSES

Abstract: Techniques of correcting wavefronts from prescription lenses for image calibration in a smartglasses assembly includes correcting wavefront error at a calibration camera by performing a phase modulation of optical wave-fronts emanating from the back surface of a prescription lens in a smartglasses assembly prior to the optical wavefronts being detected by the calibration camera. For example, when collimated light from, e.g., a waveguide disposed within a rim portion of a smartglasses frame, is incident on a prescription lens, that lens induces a wavefront aberration that would be corrected in the prescribed user's eye. In an image calibration, however, there is no such correcting eye so a correction mechanism that corrects the wavefront aberration should be placed in an eye plane related to a location of an eye of the user when the user wears the smartglasses assembly.

Abstract: A lens specification for multiple lens layers of a lens structure is generated by one or more processors. A multifocal correction (MFC) component is assigned to at least one lens layer of the multiple lens layers. Parameters are generated for a display optics (DO) lens layer comprising an augmented reality (AR) display, the DO lens layer having a first side for facing an eye of the user and a second side for facing away from the eye of the user. Parameters are generated for one or more eye side (ES) lens layers of the multiple lens layers to be disposed adjacent to the first side of the DO lens layer, and for one or more world side (WS) lens layers to be disposed adjacent to the second side of the DO lens layer. The generated lens specification is provided for use in production of the lens structure for the user.
