Abstract: A heat exchanger for an aircraft includes an inlet plenum housing defining an inlet plenum configured to receive a fluid and an outlet plenum housing defining an outlet plenum configured to discharge the fluid. Furthermore, the heat exchanger includes a core configured to heat or cool a first portion of the fluid, with the core defining a plurality of fluid passages extending from the inlet plenum to the outlet plenum. Moreover, the heat exchanger includes a passive bypass defining a passive bypass flow path fluidly coupled to and extending between the inlet plenum and the outlet plenum. As such, the passive bypass flow path is in parallel with at least a portion of the core such that a second portion of the fluid bypasses at least a portion of the core and flows continuously and unobstructed through the passive bypass flow path to the outlet plenum.

Abstract: A heat exchanger that includes an input cavity defined by inlet cavity walls; a heat exchanger portion in fluid communication with the input cavity and defined between a first side and a second side, and wherein a plurality of baffles are positioned within the heat exchanger portion; and an outlet cavity in fluid communication with the heat exchanger portion and defined by outlet cavity walls. The heat exchanger portion comprises: a plurality of first fluid paths defined between the baffles and extending from the input cavity to the outlet cavity, and a plurality of tubes extending through the heat exchanger portion from the first side to the second side. Each tube extends through the baffles so as to define a second fluid path through the heat exchanger portion. Heat exchanger systems are also generally provided, along with methods for cooling a hot fluid input with a heat exchanger.

Abstract: A thermal management system includes a housing, and a monolithic core structure disposed within the housing. An outer surface of the core structure defines at least part of a first passageway. An inner surface of the core structure defines at least part of a second passageway. The core structure includes a separator wall that isolates a first flow passing through the first passageway from a second flow passing through the second passageway. The first passageway is in thermal communication with the second passageway.
