    摘要： A novel nosepiece for a fastener driving tool for driving fasteners for holding and spacing an object at a predetermined distance from a substrate are provided, wherein the fastener driving tool has a housing, a driver blade within the housing for driving the fasteners, and a power source for driving the driver blade, and each of the fasteners includes a bridge portion, a first prong extending in a driving direction from the bridge portion, a second prong spaced from the first prong and extending generally parallel thereto in the driving direction from the bridge portion, wherein the second prong is substantially shorter than the first prong, the nosepiece comprising, a trailing end coupled to the housing of the fastener driving tool, a substrate contacting end, a channel for axially guiding the driver blade and the fastener in a driving direction toward the substrate, a slot proximate the substrate contacting end laterally extending into the channel for receiving the object, and a curved ramp within the channel, wherein a portion of the ramp is positioned between the slot and the substrate contacting end, the ramp being for interfering with the path of the second prong to bend the second prong toward the first prong to hold the object between the second prong and the bridge portion.

A portion of the nail shank is made harder than the remainder by selectively heat treating that portion, and cooling it. The nail has controlled bending properties. The selectively hardened portion does not significantly bend when the nail is fired at a surface using a power driving tool, or during use of the nailed object.

A tensioner is mounted to the housing and includes a driven roller. A plurality of fastener strips is disposed linearly in end-to-end fashion and each strip is secured to each other by at least one fastening tape having a free end connected to the driven roller. The tensioner is constructed and arranged for creating a biasing force for urging the fastener strips toward the shear block end.

    摘要： A steel fastener has an elongate shank, an enlarged head formed at one end of the shank, and a generally pointed tip formed at the other end of the shank. A grooved portion of the shank is formed with helical grooves defining helical ribs and with annular grooves defining annular rings. The shank has a cylindrical portion between the grooved portion and the tip and a cylindrical portion between the grooved portion and the head. Each of the annular grooves has a root where deepest and each of the annular rings has a crest where largest. The roots define an imaginary cone diverging toward the tip. The crests define an imaginary cone converging toward the tip. The shank has an exterior surface coated with a polymeric coating, which is formed from an aqueous composition containing a water-based acrylic resin and a water-based polyurethane resin. A zinc layer and a chromate conversion layer are provided between the polymeric coating and the exterior surface of the shank.

    摘要： A corrosion-resistant, headed fastener, such as a nail for exterior applications, is made from a carbon steel wire pre-coated with a protective, metallic layer having corrosion-resistant properties, the protective, metallic layer being discontinuous at a region on a leading end of the pre-coated wire. After at least part of a protective, metallic cap having corrosion-resistant properties is disposed near the leading end of the pre-coated wire, at least part of the protective, metallic cap is welded to the leading end of the pre-coated wire, so as to cover the region where the protective, metallic layer is discontinuous, by impact welding, as the fastener is formed from the precoated wire in such a manner that the fastener is formed with a shank and with a head, which is formed by deformation of the leading end of the pre-coated wire. The welded part of the protective, metallic cap provides the fastener with corrosion resistance at the region where the protective, metallic layer is discontinuous, and the protective, metallic layer provides the remaining portions of the fastener with corrosion resistance. The protective, metallic layer is made from chromium, nickel, zinc, aluminum, or an alloy comprising zinc and aluminum, preferably from zinc or such an alloy. The protective, metallic cap is made from chromium, nickel, zinc, aluminum, or an alloy comprising zinc and aluminum, preferably aluminum, which can be visually differentiated from zinc or such an alloy.

    摘要： A workpiece-treating system and a related method are disclosed. Workpeices, such as for example coils of collated nails, are conveyed successively into a first container for treatment within a first bath, such as, for example a nail-cleaning bath, out from the first container, into a second container for treatment within a second bath, such as, for example nail-coating bath, and out from the second bath. A carrousel having three workpiece-holding platforms is used to convey the workpieces as mentioned. Means are provided for mounting the carrousel so as to enable the platforms to be conjointly and selectively raised or lowered and to enable the carrousel to be selectively indexed about a vertical axis through a cycle of three working positions when the platforms are raised. Means are provided for rotating each platform about a vertical axis for a selected period of time. The respective containers are positioned where a selected platform is lowerable into the first container and a different platform is lowerable into the second container in each working position of the carrousel.
