Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for heat sealing thermoplastics strap material comprising a portable tool adapted to receive two sections of strap material which are to be welded together and having a heating element, means for moving the heating element between the straps and a battery source for supplying heating current to the heating element. A control circuit detects the battery voltage on load, and a drive circuit controls the movement of the heating element between the straps, to control the speed of the heating element in dependence on the detected voltage level, to compensate for decreasing battery voltage. The battery source is mounted in or on the tool housing for portability. The heating element is mounted on a carriage assembly mounted for reciprocal motion between the two straps and driven by an electric motor.A shaft encoder associated with the carriage drive generates electrical pulses the frequency of which is proportional to the speed, and the number of which is proportional to the distance moved by the carriage.Switch means is employed for turning the heating current on and off and is actuated by the presence of the heater carriage assembly at particular positions along the carriage assembly path, determined by microswitches or counting the pulses from the encoder.
Abstract:
A kit of parts for use in the manufacture of a self-contained particle cassette for a needleless syringe device. In an exemplary embodiment, the kit includes a first cassette part having a first rupturable membrane sealed thereto, and a second cassette part having a second rupturable membrane sealed thereto. In this exemplary embodiment, the first and second cassette parts are arranged to be attached together by a method other than heat sealing so as to form the self-contained particle cassette and so as to create a chamber for the confinement of particles between the first and second membranes.
Abstract:
A kit of parts for use in the manufacture of a particle cassette for a needleless syringe device. The kit may include a first cassette part having a first rupturable membrane sealed thereto and a second cassette part having a second rupturable membrane sealed thereto. The first and second cassette parts may be arranged to be attachable together so as to create a chamber for the confinement of particles between the first and second membranes. The first and second cassette parts may be substantially annular and the first cassette part defines a receptacle for receiving particles. The second cassette part may be attachable concentrically around or inside the first cassette part.
Abstract:
An apparatus for heat sealing together layers of strap of thermoplastics material, wherein at least one thin flat electrical heating element is supported under tension and between the layers of strap and the layers of strap are pressed together with a fusing pressure by at least one resilient pressure pad. The heating element, a support for the heating element and the resilient pressure pad form a heating and fusing assembly which is moved in unison relative to the layers of strap so that in use, the heating element moves between the two layers of strap generally in a longitudinal direction thereof.
