摘要: A method for removing a vein includes making an incision through a skin layer of a patient, inserting a surgical instrument through the incision, visualizing the vein through the skin layer using a light source positioned subcutaneously and in proximity of the vein, and cutting the vein using the surgical instrument. The vein can be visualized by directing light from the light source at the vein from underneath the vein or from a side of the vein. A device for illuminating a body structure has a housing with a distal end configured for subcutaneous insertion into a patient's tissue and positioning in proximity of the body structure, a light path supported by the housing and configured for directing light at the body structure, and a fluid lane supported by the housing.

摘要: A method of treating undesired veins includes inserting a needle into a segment of an undesired vein, injecting a sclerosing agent through the needle into the undesired vein to initiate occlusion of the vein, and removing the needle from the undesired vein. The method further includes inserting a needle of a fluid delivery system into the surrounding tissue of the undesired vein, and delivering a tumescent solution through the needle of the fluid delivery system into the surrounding tissue of the vein to increase compression to the vein. A surgical apparatus for treating undesired veins includes a fluid source to store the fluid and a fluid transmitting device. A fluid delivery tube having first and second lumens is coupled to the fluid transmitting device. A first needle is in fluid communication with the first lumen and a second needle is in fluid communication with the second lumen.

摘要: The present invention relates to devices and methods for the filling syringes. One medical apparatus in accordance with the present invention include a body member for releasably holding syringe barrels and an actuator apparatus slidably mounted on the body member to engage syringe plungers to cause the syringe plunger to be retracted. A fluid delivery apparatus is releasably mounted to the body member. The fluid delivery apparatus has an inlet port and a plurality of outlet ports. The inlet port is in fluid communication with each of the plurality of outlet ports. One method for filling a plurality of syringes in accordance with the present invention includes the steps of mounting a plurality a syringes to a syringe holding member and connecting a fluid delivery apparatus to the syringe holding member to mate with each of the tips of the syringe barrels. The method also includes the steps of placing an inlet port of the fluid delivery apparatus in a fluid and moving an actuator apparatus to retract the syringe plungers to cause fluid to enter the syringe barrels.

摘要: The present invention relates to devices and methods for removing veins in a venous system of a patient. One device includes an elongated shaft having a first end and a second end, the second end of the first elongated shaft sized for insertion into an incision of a patient and a cutting head associated with the second end of the elongated shaft and being movable in response to electrical energy, the cutting head being constructed to cut veins into small pieces of a patient that are exposed to the cutting head. A method of removing varicose veins is also provided. The method includes the steps of making at least one incision through the skin layer of a patient in close proximity the undesired veins, inserting a distal end of a surgical instrument having a cutting element, and advancing the cutting element end of the surgical instrument to a position adjacent to a selected vein. The method function includes the steps of energizing surgical instrument to cause the cutting element to move at a desired speed, contacting the cutting element against the undesired vein while the cutting element is moving to break up the vein into particles, and withdrawing the distal end of the surgical instrument and closing the at least one small incision.

摘要: The present invention relates to devices and methods for the repair of hernia. One method for repairing a hernia the steps of making an incision through a skin layer of a patient near the hernia, creating an entrance into the preperitoneal space above the peritoneum at a location above the hernia, identifying and freeing a hernia sac, creating a pocket in the preperitoneal space, directing a surgical patch down through the incision and into the preperitoneal space, and expanding the surgical patch in the preperitoneal space. The method further includes the steps of inserting a distal end of a surgical fastening device through the incision and into the surgical patch, actuating the surgical fastening device to drive a fastener through the surgical patch and into the tissue of the patient, moving the distal end of the surgical fastening device to another location, actuating the surgical fastening device to drive a second fastener through the surgical patch and into the tissue of the patient, and closing the incision with stitches. One surgical apparatus for repairing a hernia includes a surgical stapling instrument for applying at least one surgical staple to fasten a surgical hernia patch to internal body tissue. The surgical instrument includes a handle assembly have a longitudinal axis. A staple cartridge housing is mounted to the handle assembly and is adapted to receive the at least one staple. The staple cartridge housing is dimensioned for insertion through an incision and has a staple actuator mechanism for applying the at least one staple into tissue. An actuation mechanism is operatively coupled to the staple actuator mechanism to operate the staple actuation mechanism.
