Abstract: Carbonatable calcium silicate-based cements and concretes are presented, which result in concrete compositions that have an improved aesthetics. A cement product includes a plurality of particles of a carbonatable calcium silicate cement and a first additive; wherein, the first additive is a hydrophobic organic acid, or a salt thereof, or a silane, or a polysiloxane.

Abstract: A method of producing a synthetic carbonated mineral component in a cement manufacturing plant, includes providing a carbonatable substance from an external source, introducing the carbonatable substance into an exhaust gas installation of the cement manufacturing plant for contacting the carbonatable substance with CO2 enriched exhaust gas, carbonating the carbonatable substance by reacting the carbonatable substance with CO2 contained in the CO2 enriched exhaust gas, thereby obtaining the synthetic carbonated mineral component, and removing the synthetic carbonated mineral component from the exhaust gas installation.

Abstract: A method of preparation of a construction element by carbonation, includes a) preparing a composition containing a cement, water and chemical additives; b) pre-drying the composition; then c) placing the pre-dried composition in a chamber of an incubator, the chamber containing at least one inlet and one outlet, the pre-dried composition being carbonated, in a carbonation procedure, by feeding into the chamber, through the inlet, a flow of CO2 containing gas, variations of the CO2 concentration in the chamber being kept below 10% of a reference value during the whole carbonation procedure, during the carbonation procedure, the pressure within the chamber being atmospheric pressure, the relative humidity within the chamber being above 80° % and the temperature within the chamber ranging from 20° C. to 80° C. The chemical additives in the composition include more than 0.05% in weight, compared to the total weight of the cement, of a cement hydration retarder.
