    摘要: An intake and exhaust system is provided for internal combustion engines of the type which employ a main combustion chamber and an auxiliary chamber in communication therewith through a torch nozzle; the main chamber having a valve controlled lean mixture inlet and a valve controlled exhaust outlet; the auxiliary chamber having a valve controlled rich mixture inlet and a spark plug; an intake pipe adapted to conduct a rich mixture to the auxiliary chamber and an exhaust pipe adapted to conduct heated exhaust gasses from the main chamber; the pipes having portions sharing a common heat transferring partition wall to provide a region in which heat is transferred from the exhaust pipe to the rich mixture pipe to heat the rich mixture passing therein; the pipes having portions between the heat exchange region and the main and auxiliary chambers which are separated from each other and joined to the engine in a manner to minimize stress due to temperature change; the pipes being encased in a common housing to provide encompassing heat insulation.

    摘要: A three valve internal combustion engine has an auxiliary combustion chamber connected to a main combustion chamber through a torch opening, and a spark plug ignites a rich combustible mixture in the auxiliary chamber to project a flame through the torch opening to ignite a relatively lean mixture in the main combustion chamber. To prevent condensation of fuel in the intake passage to the auxiliary combustion chamber, especially under start-up conditions, the rich combustible mixture is passed in heat exchange relationship with exhaust gasses from the main combustion chamber. Thin wall metallic conduits carrying the rich combustible mixture to the auxiliary chamber and carrying exhaust gasses from the main chamber are placed in integral contact and are enclosed within a relatively thick wall protective shell.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine employs a multiple throat carburetor which supplies a lean mixture to each main chamber and a rich combustible mixture to each auxiliary combustion chamber. Exhaust gases from each main chamber are used to heat the incoming rich mixture to a relatively high degree and to heat the incoming lean mixture to a lesser degree. The intake passage for the incoming lean mixture is placed directly above a chamber in the exhaust passage and is separated therefrom by a first shield in the form of a substantially horizontal metallic plate. A multiple throat carburetor is positioned directly above a chamber in the intake passage for the lean mixture and is separated therefrom by a second shield, substantially horizontal, comprising a metal plate with an upturned peripheral edge.
