Abstract:
Apparatus and tool therefor for forming teeth on the peripheries of gear blanks by rolling. A plurality of teeth are provided on the tool, each thereof having a plurality of spaced projecting areas for applying localized pressures onto the workpiece and arranged in laterally offset relationship for laterally progressively roll-forming each tooth on the periphery of the gear blank, simultaneously with the inwardly radial progression thereof, without the production of chips or shavings. Means are also provided for changing the spacing between the axes of the tool and the gear blank to effect by rolling the formation of teeth on the gear blank.
Abstract:
A toothed tool for the chipless generation of gears of the type wherein the teeth have pressure concentrating serrations extending from at least near the addendum thereof to a point at least near the dedendum thereof. These serrations define ribs on the toothed flanks by which the pressure part of the tool is transmitted in a concentrated manner onto the workpiece. In the present invention, the tool is of generally elongated or racklike shape and moves substantially rectilinearly with respect to the periphery and teeth of the workpiece. Any suitable means are provided to create the necessary pressure between the tool and the workpiece.
Abstract:
A tool for the precision working of gears by chip removal therefrom such as in gear shaving and of the type wherein the flanks of the tool teeth comprise a plurality of alternate grooves and lands having a novel cutting edge construction between the surfaces of said lands and the walls of the adjacent grooves and between the tip surfaces of the tool teeth and the land adjacent thereto. Particularly said walls and the tip surfaces adjacent thereto are provided with cutting edges for plunge shaving wherein with a given relief angle the rake angle may be positive, negative or zero.
Abstract:
A spur or helical gearlike or racklike work tool for precision working of gears wherein the work tool has a plurality of cutter teeth adjustably and removably securable to a base member so that the cutter teeth can be exchanged and adjusted.
