    摘要: There is disclosed a porcelain lamp socket for use in a humid environment where the socket has a body, a screw shell, a center contact and two terminals; one for the line and the other for the neutral wire connection. The screw shell and the line and neutral terminals are attached to the porcelain body by means of fasteners such as eyelets, rivets, screws, etc. All electrical conductors in the bottom of the socket, including the fasteners are covered with a spacer which forms a watertight seal with the bottom surface of the body. The spacer, which can be made of high dielectric plastic material, can be mechanically held in place by projections which fit snuggly within the eyelets or rivets. RTV, either by itself or in combination with soft fillers such as washers can also be used to obtain a water tight seal. The device disclosed finds utility in applications where superior dielectric strength is desired between the live parts on or in the socket and the sheet metal (ground) to which the socket is mounted.

    摘要: In one embodiment, the present invention pertains to a night light assembly which plugs directly into an electrical wall receptacle to provide a beam of light that can be directed along different paths. The assembly comprises a housing having a plug with projecting blade contacts for insertion into a wall receptacle and a light sensor for automatically controlling the activation and de-activation of the lamp of the nightlight. A cover member rotatably supported by the housing includes a lens, a low wattage lamp, a support member, and a lamp retaining member. The low wattage lamp in the cover assembly is coupled, via sliding contacts, to the blade contacts in the base housing. This arrangement allows the cover and the lamp to be rotated as a unit relative to the base housing without limitation. The lamp retaining member is non-rotatably coupled to the cover and is rotatably engaged by a retaining member fixed to the housing member. The longitudinal axis of the low wattage lamp located in the lamp retaining member is aligned along the rotational axis of the lens in the cover to permit both direct and reflected light to pass through the lens in the cover without being obstructed by the base of the lamp. The disclosed assemblage is a new improved nightlight of simple design which provides increased light and can be manufactured and sold at relatively low cost. The low wattage lamp used in the nightlight can be either an incandescent bulb or a light emitting diode (LED) such as an ultrabright white LED either as a single bulb or a cluster of 2 or more bulbs. A photo sensitive circuit can be provided to automatically energize the incandescent bulb or the LED during low light conditions. When an LED is use as the light source, the LED is energized by a new improved power supply that is both simple in design and more efficient in operation than the standard power supply circuit used for LED's.

    摘要: A system and method for the alignment of an insulation piercing contact within a two piece switch housing with an insulated electrical wires disposed within the housing. The housing is comprised of two halves whereby when the two halves are brought together during assembly, the insulation piercing contact pierces the insulation of the electrical wires and forms an electrical connection between the contact and the wires. Proper alignment between the insulation piercing contact and the insulated electrical wires is ensured by providing extended prongs on one half of the switch housing. On the other half of the switch housing, channels are provided and arranged to slidably engage and mate with the prongs prior to contact of the electrical wires with the piercing contact. The prongs and channels fix the relative alignment of the contact with the wire before piercing occurs and ensures consistent location of the electrical connection formed during assembly of the switch housing.

    摘要: An electrical connector, such as one for receiving a plug, having at least two prongs for insertion into the connector, and having an electrical cable connected to the prongs of the plug and the connector in the usual way, includes a series circuit having an LED. The LED is located within the connector behind a window, and light from the LED provides a visual indication to a user that the connector is connected to a live circuit. The series circuit is located in a module that can be pre-assembled before being located within the connector and, when in the connector, the series circuit is electrically coupled directly to the contacts in the connector by means of spring contacts located in passageways in the module. Indexing means is provided for aligning the LED in the module with the window in the connector to insure that a user can see if the LED is on or off.
