    摘要: Sequentially performed are (1) an entire liquid crystal layer is initialized into a focal conic state, (2) an image is written onto the liquid crystal device by scanning with selecting exposure or non-exposure while applying a voltage that does not exceed a threshold value for a state change from the focal conic state to a homeotropic state during the non-exposure but exceeds the threshold value during the exposure and that causes the focal conic state and the homeotropic state to be bi-stable after the exposure, and (3) the application of the voltage is stopped to change a state of a portion, of which the state has changed to the homeotropic state, to the planer state. In (2), an electric field energy applied to an exposure portion of the liquid crystal layer is controlled to gradually increase from a start to an end of the series of scanning actions.

    摘要: The present invention provides stock solutions for production of nonlinear-optical materials using a wet coating method. In particular, the invention provides a stock solution containing a nonlinear-optically active organic compound, which is a push-pull π-conjugated compound having a particular chemical structure, having one or more cross-linkable functional groups. In addition, the invention provides a stock solution comprising a nonlinear-optically active organic compound having at least a certain chemical structure and a matrix-forming compound having one or more cross-linkable functional groups. Further, the invention provides a nonlinear-optical material and a nonlinear-optical device, both prepared by using the stock solutions.

    摘要: The present invention provides an organic nonlinear optical material including an organic compound having nonlinear optical activity dispersed in or bonded to a polymer binder, wherein the material contains a tertiary amine derivative represented by the following formula (1) as the organic compound having nonlinear optical activity, and an organic nonlinear optical element using the same. In the formula, Z1 to Z3 are independently aromatic groups optionally having a substituent; L is a π conjugated group optionally having a substituent; A is a π conjugated electron-attractive group which includes a ring structure optionally having a substituent; m denotes 0 or 1; a π conjugated system denoted by Z3-Lm has, from one terminal thereof to the other terminal, five or more unsaturated bonds which form one conjugated system; and at least two of Z1 to Z3, L and A may be connected so as to form at least one ring structure.

    摘要: An optical writing display apparatus that performs: applying to a pair of electrodes a first voltage having a first polarity that applies a first partial voltage to a cholesteric liquid crystal layer, the first partial voltage being more than a threshold at which the state of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer changes from focal conic to homeotropic when the exposure is conducted, and exposing an photoconductive layer to light; stopping applying the first voltage for a predetermined time and exposing the photoconductive layer to light; applying a second voltage having a second polarity opposite to the first polarity that applies a second partial voltage to the cholesteric liquid crystal layer, the second partial voltage being not more than the above threshold when the exposure is not conducted, but more than the above threshold when the exposure is conducted; and selectively exposing the photoconductive layer to light and stopping applying the second voltage.

    摘要: The invention provides a hyperbranch polymer for nonlinear optics comprising a secondary nonlinear optically active dye atomic moiety that is regularly or irregularly bound to at least one selected from the group consisting of a branching unit of a hyperbranch polymer, a linear unit of a hyperbranch polymer and a terminal unit of a hyperbranch polymer. The invention further provides an organic functional material which comprises a hyperbranch polymer as defined above or a combination of plural hyperbranch polymers as defined above in a mixed state or in a chemically bound state. The organic functional material is excellent in function performance such as nonlinear optical function, amorphous property, heat resistance, and sublimation resistance.
