摘要: An adjustable mold for a horizontal continuous casting apparatus includes an airtight cylindrical-shaped mold tube and an adjustable mold divided into a plural number of cooling plates in the direction of the periphery of the casting section and arranged after the airtight cylindrical-shaped mold tube. The plural number of cooling plates of the adjustable mold are able to move in the direction of the casting section radius. The inlet ends of each of the cooling plates of the adjustable mold are supported by support shafts that can have their position determined so that an inner diameter of an outlet end of the airtight cylindrical-shaped mold tube and an inner diameter of an inlet end of the adjustable mold can be brought into agreement. Thus, the plural number of cooling plates of the adjustable mold can swivel in the direction of the casting section radius around the support shaft by the reciprocating movement of a hydraulic cylinder provided to connect the side wall portion of a cooling box frame of the airtight cylindrical-shaped mold tube and the outlet end portion of each of the cooling plates of the adjustable mold.

摘要: The present invention provides a method for refining a molten chromium-containing steel by decarburization according to a combined-blown process, which contributes to an improvement in decarburization rate and realizes efficient decarburization while preventing [Cr] contained in the molten steel from being oxidized. The method is characterized in that, in a region where the [C] concentration of the molten chromium-containing steel is not less than 0.15%, oxygen or a gas mixture of oxygen with an inert gas is blown through a top-blown lance onto the surface of the molten steel under the following conditions:(1) the velocity of the gas immediately after spouting through one or at least two nozzle holes of the top-blown lance is not less than the velocity of sound; and(2) the ratio of the length h of a zone, in the vicinity of the surface of the molten steel, where the gas jet velocity is less than the velocity of sound, to the minimum hole diameter d.sub.0 of said nozzle, h/d.sub.0, is not more than 60, provided that when gas jets blown through a multihole nozzle overlap each other with a degree of overlap .beta., a requirement represented by the formula h/d.sub.0 .times.(1-.beta.).ltoreq.60 is met.

摘要: A continuous casting method includes the steps of continuously supplying molten metal into a mold through at least one feed nozzle connected to the mold through a break ring, with the feed nozzle, the mold and the break ring forming at least a portion of a continuous casting apparatus, and intermittently withdrawing a cast piece formed from the molten metal in the mold thereby creating pressure in a space formed at a connecting point between the break ring, the mold and the cast piece as a result of the withdrawal from the mold. A shield means is placed to seal-off space between the at least one feed nozzle, and the mold to prevent entry of gas into the continuous casting apparatus and the pressure is reduced in the sealed-off space to thereby eliminate a pressure differential between the pressure in the sealed-off space and the pressure created in the space formed at the connecting point between the break ring, the mold and the cast piece during the intermittent withdrawal from the mold.

摘要: A continuous casting apparatus comprises continuously supplying molten metal from a tundish to a cooled mold having an inlet and an outlet at least through a break ring, forming a cast section by continuously cooling the molten metal in the mold and starting the solidification of the molten metal below its surface, and intermittently withdrawing the cast section with respect to the mold through its outlet. During continuous casting, a sealing gas having a pressure higher than atmospheric and being soluble in the molten metal is invariable supplied to the entirety of the contact area of the mold and the break ring.
