Fibers delivered in a freely floating state in a fiber transport passage are to be laid in a predetermined disposition on a friction spinning element, such as a friction spinning drum or disc. For this purpose, an opening region of the fiber transport passage is provided with a converging portion in which the airstream is supplementarily accelerated relative to a preceding acceleration. This supplementary acceleration serves to assist in bringing the fibers into the predetermined disposition on the friction spinning drum. The friction spinning device comprises an opening roller which is rotatably supported in a housing. The housing is connected to the fiber transport passage. The opening of the fiber transport passage extends close to a cylindrical surface of the friction spinning drum. The fibers leaving the opening are transported on the friction spinning drum towards a yarn formation position where they are twisted into a yarn which is withdrawn in a selectable withdrawal direction by withdrawal rollers.

A friction spinning device has a pneumatic fiber transport passage or channel inclined at an angle to a perforated friction spinning element and a yarn formation position of the perforated friction spinning element is located at a spacing from an opening of the pneumatic fiber transport passage or channel. In such a friction spinning device, it is desired to ensure that the fibers located on the perforated friction spinning element are transported towards the yarn formation position neither parallel to nor at right angles to the yarn formation position. For this purpose, the perforations of the perforated friction spinning elements are so arranged that straight lines joining the perforation centers are disposed neither parallel to nor at right angles to the yarn formation position. In this way, fibers transported onto the perforated friction spinning element are laid on such perforated friction spinning element in the direction of the rows of perforations due to the intensity of the transporting air. In this way, a desired or appropriate disposition of these fibers is ensured.

The wall of the friction spinning element has bores or holes with a predeterminate bore diameter and a coating on their side facing a fiber feed duct, the coating extending over the bore edges into the bores. Each bore or hole thus formed has a diameter at the bore or hole entrance or inlet which is smaller than the bore diameter of the related bore or hole. Each bore or hole has a cross-sectional area of less than 0.283 mm.sup.2, but amounting to at least 0.07 mm.sup.2. In this way, the undesirable penetration of fibers or fiber parts into the bores or holes is prevented as far as possible when air flows through the bores or holes at the side of the coating, while retaining a hole form or configuration which is favorable from the standpoint of airflow and blockage of the bores or holes.

A spinning ring of a ring spinning machine has an inclined flange which is configured such that a travel surface at the inner surface of the spinning ring has a radius (R2) which amounts to about 25 mm. and which merges into a radius (R1) which, at the location of the smallest inner diameter of the spinning ring, amounts to at least 1 mm. A rim or bead at the travel portion of the spinning ring has a height (H) which at most is about one-half larger than the thickness (K) of the rim. Consequently, there can be used travellers having small outer dimensions, so that there can be selected a larger wire thickness of the traveller material. In this way, the service life of the traveller in the ring spinning machine is increased in relation to the prior art. The radius (R1) which is large in comparison to prior art spinning rings and the comparatively small radius (R2) result in an approximately constant surface pressure between the traveller and the spinning ring and afford a stable travel of the traveller during ring spinning.

A method and an apparatus for production of yarn by friction spinning is disclosed. The friction spinning method employs a perforated friction spinning drum towards which a fibre feed passage projects. An opening roller, known from the open-end rotor spinning process, feeds separated fibres into the fibre feed passage, which fibres are taken up by a transport air flow in the fibre feed passage. This transport air flow is produced by the perforated friction spinning drum which is subjected to underpressure. Fibres leaving an opening of the fibre feed passage are laid in an inclined disposition on the perforated friction spinning drum and transported in this disposition towards a yarn end forming at a yarn formation position. The spun yarn is withdrawn by a withdrawal roller pair. Advantageously, a second friction spinning drum is provided parallel to the first perforated friction spinning drum to cause the fibre twisting-in process to take place in a more accurately defined manner.

To control the yarn quality of a yarn produced by a textile machine, particularly a false-twist jet spinning apparatus, there is provided at the end of the spinning operation, however, upstream of the pair of withdrawal rolls for the outfeed of the produced yarn, a yarn tension measuring device. Upon falling outside of a predeterminate yarn tension tolerance or tension range the yarn tension measuring device controls operation of the false-twist jet spinning apparatus such that, as required, there is accomplished an appropriate increase or decrease of the yarn tension of the yarn produced by the false-twist jet spinning apparatus. Alteration of the yarn tension can be achieved, for instance, by varying the blowing intensity or energy of the air utilized for the spinning operation as well as by varying the angle at which there is blown in the air used for the spinning operation or by varying the rotational speed of the delivery rolls which deliver the formed yarn or by selected combinations of these measures.

A friction spinning machine comprising a perforated roller (6) and an imperforate roller (19) is so designed that high-quality yarn can be produced in various sizes and with adequate strengths at a relatively high rate of output. The adjustment parameters necessary to solve this problem are specified in detail, more particulary those determining the position, orientation and shape of the fibre feed duct (5).

To control the yarn quality of a yarn produced by a textile machine, for instance a friction spinning apparatus, there is provided at the end of the friction spinning operation, however, forwardly of the pair of withdrawal rolls for the outfeed of the produced yarn, a yarn tension measuring device. Upon deviating from or falling outside of a predeterminate yarn tension tolerance value or range the yarn tension measuring device controls operation of the friction spinning apparatus such that, as required, there is accomplished an appropriate increase or decrease of the yarn tension of the yarn produced by the friction spinning apparatus. Alteration of the yarn tension can be acheived, for instance, by acting upon the drive for one of the friction spinning elements, to control the rotational speed thereof, or by selectively positioning the suction nozzle of a friction spinning element, or by controlling the size of the nip between coacting friction spinning elements, or selected combinations of such measures.

The invention relates to a device for the production of a spun thread from a staple fiber strand by means of air spin method. The fiber guiding element according to the invention includes a fiber conveying channel with a fiber guiding surface, whereby the fiber guiding surface ends at a fiber presenting edge and leads the fibers of the staple strand in the form of an essentially flat arrangement lying next to each other. The fiber-guiding surface is configured in such a manner that it includes a diverting point which causes a deviation of the staple fiber strand, where the deviation is being provided in such a manner that the free fiber ends of the fibers within the staple fiber protrude from the staple fiber strand.
