摘要: In a metal V-belt type continuously variable transmission having a driving pulley and a driven pulley, the inclination angle .alpha. of a V-groove in the pulleys is set in a range represented by tan.sup.-1 .mu.a tan.sup.-1 .mu.s. If the transmittable torque Tin is increased, the tensile force of the endless belt is increased to produce slipping between the endless belt and the pulley. However, according to the present invention, by decreasing the inclination angle .alpha. to reduce the tensile force of the endless belt, the transmittable torque Tin can be increased while preventing slipping of the endless belt.

摘要: The durability of the entire metal ring assembly is enhanced by increasing the wear life of the radially inner surface of the metal ring of the innermost layer which is the layer which is most easily fractured. A belt for a continuously variable transmission is formed by supporting a large number of metal elements on a metal ring assembly wherein multiple sheets of endless metal rings are layered. The thickness of the metal ring of the innermost layer is different from the thickness of the metal rings of layers other than the innermost layer. The thickness of the metal ring of the innermost layer is set so that the stress amplitude applied to the radially outer surface of the metal ring of the innermost layer is not more than the stress amplitude applied to the radially outer surfaces of the metal rings of layers other than the innermost layer. By setting the thickness of the metal ring of the innermost layer at 0.042 mm to 0.161 mm when the thickness of the metal rings of layers other than the innermost layer is 0.185 mm, the stress amplitude &sgr;a1 applied to the metal ring of the innermost layer becomes lower than the stress amplitude &sgr;an of 25.65 kgf/- mm2 applied to the other metal rings. Thus the durability of the metal ring of the innermost layer can be enhanced to increase the life span of the entire metal ring assembly.

摘要: A V-face of a metal element is prevented from being inclined due to a load from a pulley by increasing the height Hs of an upper non-contact portion of the V-face of the metal element. For example, when the height of the V-face is represented by Hv (mm), and the height of the upper non-contact portion of the V-face is represented by Hs (mm), the height Hv of the V-face and the height Hs of the upper non-contact portion are set so that a relationship −0.5265Hv+2.768≦Hs≦−0.5934Hv+3.524 is established.

摘要: In a belt for a continuously variable transmission, a first line on a lower edge of an element body of a metal element is determined, and a second line straightforwardly connecting a lower end of a V-face to which a load is applied from a V-groove in a pulley and an inner end of a saddle surface is determined, so that when a downward load is applied from a metal ring assembly to an outer end of the saddle surface, the folding-resistant strength of the element body is uniform laterally. The position of the recess is determined in the vicinity of a point of intersection of the first and second lines. The lower edge of the element body is defined by the first line inside the recess and by the second line outside the recess. The durability of the metal element can be enhanced by devising the shape of the lower edge of the element body of the metal element in this manner.

摘要: In a section near a rocking edge of each of metal elements used in a metal belt for a continuously variable transmission, a pair of protrusions are formed at laterally opposite ends of a front main surface opposed to a preceding metal element, and flat surface portions are formed on a rear main surface opposed to a succeeding metal element. The metal elements can be wound in a correct attitude around a pulley without being yawed by the contact of the protrusions and the flat surface portions with each other, whereby they can be prevented from being damaged. Further the metal elements contacting with each other in a chord section of the metal belt can slide laterally. Thus, a misalignment between a drive pulley and a driven pulley can be absorbed.

摘要: By defining the contact ratio obtained by dividing the lateral width of a saddle surface of metal elements of a metal belt for a continuously variable transmission by the lateral width of a metal ring, the transmission capacity and durability of the metal belt can be enhanced. By gradually increasing the width of the metal ring in a state in which the lateral inner edges of the metal ring are in contact with the neck parts of the metal elements so as to gradually decrease the contact ratio, accompanying it the percentage change in the power transmission capacity gradually increases from the negative side and changes positive at a predetermined contact ratio. Therefore, by setting the contact ratio at the percentage change at which the transmission capacity changes from negative to positive as the upper limit of the contact ratio (92%), the percentage change in transmission capacity can be prevented from becoming negative thus preventing the transmission capacity and the durability of the metal rings from being degraded. The lower limit of the contact ratio (85%) is set at a value at which the lateral edges of the metal rings are not in contact with both the neck parts of the metal elements and the V-faces of the pulleys, when taking into consideration a misalignment between the pulleys.

摘要: A belt for a continuously variable transmission includes a metal ring assembly formed of a plurality of endless metal rings laminated one on another, and a large number of metal elements each having a ring slot into which the metal ring assembly is fitted. In the belt, a crowning radius of the metal ring in a free state is set smaller than a crowning radius of a saddle face of the ring slot supporting the innermost metal ring. Thus, the metal ring assembly can be centered to a central portion of the saddle face, whereby a difference between a tensile stress at a central portion of an outer peripheral surface of the metal ring and a tensile stress at opposite ends of the outer peripheral surface can be reduced in an area where the metal belt is wound around a pulley, thereby preventing a reduction in durability.

摘要: A belt for a continuously variable transmission in which an aggregate of metal rings formed by laminating a plurality of pieces of endless metal rings support a plurality of metal blocks. When the ratio .xi. of the coefficient of friction is set to be 2.0>.xi.>0.65, the amount of change in the tension on the metal ring of the innermost position decreases correspondingly. In particular, when the ratio .xi. of the coefficient of friction is set to be 1.0, resulting in the coefficient of friction .mu..sub.s between a ring and a block being equal to the coefficient of friction .mu..sub.SS between a ring and a ring, the amount of change in the tension on all metal rings become uniform, and each metal ring shares an amount of change in the tension which is 8% of the entire amount. This makes it possible to decrease the amount of change in the tension on the metal ring of the innermost position and, hence, to increase the durability of the aggregate of metal rings as a whole.
