A dispenser cathode such as a metal capillary cathode for electrical discharge devices which has a hollow cylindrical head portion 1 which carries a porous emission wafer 3 of a refractive material at its upper end and covers a cathode cartridge 2 which contains an active material supply 4 and comprises an epoxy helical heater 5 surrounded by a metal sleeve 6. Two part division of the structure allows separate testing possibility of the emission wafer and the heater/supply cartridge and also allows an improvement in the heat transmission from the heater to the emission wafer. For this purpose, a hollow cylindrical head portion 1 is conically-shaped and expands outwardly toward the cathode cartridge 2 and the upper part of the cathode cartridge 2 is conically tapered so as to mate with the hollow cylindrical head portion and the two portions are connected together wherein their conical side walls are attached by welding in the upper portion of the drawn up metal sleeve. The dispenser cathode can be used in travelling wave tubes for example.

This invention relates to a composition and method for producing a surface layer with a high specific surface on iron, aluminum, zinc, and on technical alloys of these metals. The composition provides an adhesive layer that may be subsequently used to securely bind other materials, and organic materials in particular, to the surface of the metal or alloy. The composition may be applied by spraying under pressure, by dipping, or as a paste at ambient temperatures. The composition is predominantly amorphous, and provides a uniform, stable, and economical method of priming metals for the reception of a final outer coating.

The cylinder is deformable in a radial direction, is of an elastic material, and is dimensioned so that it fixes the electron beam collector in the bore of the housing with a tight fit.

An electron beam catcher for velocity modulated electron tubes which is formed as a two multi-stage collector comprising a plurality of catcher electrodes 1 and 2 surrounding the electron beam and mounted so that one follows the other in the direction of the electron beam axis and the catcher electrodes are electrically insulated from each other and are surrounded by a metallic outer envelope 3. A plurality of semicylindrical insulating parts 4 and 4' extended in the axial direction and are mounted between the catcher electrodes 1 and 2 and the outer metallic cover or vacuum envelope 3 which is heated to cause it to expand and is then shrunk onto the insulator parts 4 and 4' such that the oblong insulator parts 4 and 4' are pressed against the catcher electrodes 1 and 2 and are tightly held by the metallic outer vacuum envelope 3. The electron catcher 15 particularly useful in high powered travelling wave tubes.
